Why was Cotto so much easier for Pacquiao than he was for Mayweather?

^ Compubox stats are **** and totally innacurrate. But obviously Pac did a better job on Cotto, and he fought a better version.

    Pac almost tripled Gayweather's powerpunch!!!!

Cotto actually threw more punches in the Pac fight than in The gayweather fight.

    Styles make fights.

Pac is very good against those who're bigger and slower than him. It's people who're expert at timing that cause pac issues. Cotto is a very accurate puncher but he doesn't time and counter, he just attacks behind his jab. Pac will eat up those types of fighters.

Floyd struggles with those who are bigger and stronger. Floyd doesn't rely as much on footwork which sees him backed up relying on his shoulder roll. Whilst he is outstanding at this, he can lose rounds because some punches are bound to get through and his output is low. Castillo, hoya and cotto have all had moments of success against floyd because they're bigger, fight in behind the jab, and throw punches in bunches.

Floyd always figures them out in the end though.

disagree completely, cotto has great timing with his jab, if not the floyd fight watch the foreman fight, or the clottey fight where he decks clottey with a jab, the jab was not a counter mind-you, he timed clottey, as he did foreman and floyd. as for being a counter puncher, cotto is a pretty good counterpuncher, he countered alot vs pacquiao, problem was he stayed in the pocket with pacquiao

If you need to ask this question then you don't know **** about boxing. Isn't it obvious? Pac didn't fight the best Cotto he could have. Cotto was younger at the time, but he was made to drop below the 147lb mark. Floyd fought a bigger more confident Cotto for his title at his fighting weight. There was no short cuts taking by Floyd to obtain Cotto title. The same was done to Oscar De La Hoya when he fought Pac as well.

Pacquiao and Margarito are relentless pressure fighters who have iron chins and wouldn't go backwards. Mayweather cannot do that.

That said I thought he was terrific on the ropes early on and was throwing a wide array of shots. Excellent job from Mayweather.

I know Pacquiao beats Cotto anytime. He matches up well.

I've always felt that Cotto had the style to beat Mayweather. His ability to effectively cut off the ring and his very good jab plus body punching are what you need to beat him. If he would have fought him pre Margo who knows what happens.

Getting Floyd that heavy probably does play a small role but Cotto has the right style to give him hell.

There's a difference between timing a jab to set up your attack and timing your shots to disrupt the opponents attack.

Cotto doesn't have the required ability to stifle pac, but he does have the jab and strength to force floyd back.

It's difficult imagining pac losing to a pressure fighter, even one with a top level jab.
