Why was Dillian Whyte so under rated before his fight with Joshua?

Looks like a carbon copy of Chisora to me. Good fighter, but if there is a rematch then I'm sure it will be over far sooner, because Joshua has now stepped up a level.

Why do you think that? He didn't show anything in that fight to assume he stepped up a level, if anything Whyte's injury made him look better than he is!

This. But maybe not even Chisora level. Whyte pretty much admitted that he only took the fight now cos no one even knows him in the UK, the fight would be worth more down the line if they had both kept perfect records. I can see Whyte maybe at British / Commonwealth title level when Joshua moves up or European level maybe if that. He would be a fool to take a rematch straight away with Joshua, if he plays it smart he might end up getting a few nice paydays down the line like Del Boy. But I dont see anything special about Whyte at all. The fact that Joshua is still far from the finished article (which most of us already knew) is the only thing I take away from that fight.

So your saying that Whyte isnt very good and just that people are going over the top in thinking that Joshua is a potentially great heavyweight

Sure Joshua has got all the potential in the world I'm not disputing that, but I think a Joshua even a few fights from now would have put Whyte away a lot faster and he tried to do it early, but when it didnt happen for him he froze a bit and it took him a while to get back in his rythm, in the end KO was a beauty, but altho Whyte has plenty of heart for me he was hanging on for dear life after the first couple of rounds, his legs were gone and a more seasoned HW would have put him away, I really just dont see Whyte going on to do great things personally.

It's because of the British boxing media being bias

Neutral fans of the sport knew then we're on the same level

Essentially, I think it was because he wasn't heavily hyped by the Matchroom machine (the polar opposite is true in Joshua's case). Hence, most people just expected Joshua to turn up and blitz Dillian in 2 or 3 rounds, and it surprised a lot of people when he took Joshua past 4 rounds, and had Joshua badly hurt in that 2nd round.
