GGG is always the aggressor. Why was he fighting off his back foot tonigt? When he applied pressure he hurt canelo. He was not the aggressor and canelos body shots got to GGG. Why was he fighting off the backfoot from the get go?

I agree, Golovkin is always best when he's on the front foot, controlling the ring and dictating the pace, it was an unusual tactic to box off the backfoot all night from GGG. Maybe bad hands or a shoulder injury, maybe he knows he's got no pop in his shots no more, maybe respect for Alvarez's chin.

He fought the first fight on the front foot, and outlanded/outworked Canelo.

He fought the second fight on the back foot, and outlanded/outworked Canelo.

Canelo cannot be ahead, head to head, after these two fights......

    Poor/inept/corrupt scoring.

Canelo got to the center of the ring and would not leave that center for most of the fight. He used ring generalship and forced GGG on his backfoot with bodyshots that hurt him in the midrounds. Ggg took alot of shots to the face cuz his arms were at his side.

It was a winning tactic to let Clenelo fight off the front foot.

He was catching him all night with clean shots, and outlanding him. Clenelo was a sitting duck and getting picked off with GGGs ram rod jab

The only issue he had was that in the first 6 rounds, some of those rounds were close enough to be given the other way. Clenelo even though he was missing alot, could have been seen to steal some of those rounds.

Fatigue and an attempt to get punching distance

Canelo's strategy in the rematch was:

    1. Smother GGG and don't give him punching distance
    2. Force GGG to throw punches by rushing him
    3. Wear out GGG with the smothering and having him miss leads

The reason why GGG kept "re-setting" his feet (stepping to the side) was he had no room or distance to throw. And, he was tired (has to be more selective about when to throw shots as stamina reduced from age). He can't fight 3-minute rounds any longer and Alvarez knows that and used a smart strategy to exploit it.

Great gameplan by Canelo. I think GGG won, but it was a smart (and brave) strategy by Canelo.

Half of it was Canelo fighting on the front foot to maximize his counters and probably dispel accusations of running (and maybe protecting the right knee?) and half of it was Golovkin trying to keep his distance. If you noticed GGG was much more ready to jump backwards to avoid Canelo's counters, and his jab worked even better in this fight.

Canelo was coming forward a lot more so he had no choice but to back off.

    The guys 36 ffs.....

When you look at guys like Floyd and Hopkins etc, there success at an older age is comparable because of their defensive styles.

Canelo is better at close quarters, all those claiming he would be foolish to slug with a slugger were wrong. Had it been an all out war Canelo would have won as he is much faster and better defensively.

body shots and a strong chin are the kryptonite for fighters like GGG and Kovalev

The problem with your analysis is that pro boxing is not about who taps who more.
Its about who scores with more effective shots.
Clearly that was Canelo in both fights.

I thought Canelo dominated Golovkin through the first 8 rounds.
The last four rounds were give and take back and fourth. The tenth Golovkin's best round and he had that opportunity after Canelo spent himself the previous few rounds by trying to stop Golovkin.

On a round by round basis I don't think the fight was close. Golovkin imo didn't win more than 4 rounds as once again, Canelo landed with the meatier punches and this time was the the aggressor throughout the whole match.

I'm sorry folks, but a jab does not weigh more the meatier hooks to the head and body Canelo was landing on a consistent basis.

Give Canelo his credit, he outboxed GGG the first time and this time beat GGG at his own game, the come forward power game.
For Gods sake, all you need to do is look at the desperation on both Abel Sanchez' and GGG's face in the corner all throughout the fight inbetween rounds.

Pure and simple, Canelo a G!!!

obvously if the other guy is coming forward a lot you have to back off or it turns into a stegosaurus-type head bash.
