It’s always interesting to see the dichotomy between boxing fans on GGG.

He is either loved or considered overrated by fans both of which claim to be the hardcore part of the fandom.

True! I actually would lean towards thinking he’s a bit overrated, but fighting toe to toe with prime Canelo at likely his best weight (and deserving to win the first fight) really is exceptional and makes up for the lack of super high quality wins in his resume outside of that for me.. Factored in with his dominance and reign, he was definitely a great fighter in my eyes.

It is that simple. But we have idiots here who think weight jumping means greatness.

It does mean greatness if you are successful at it.

No, it means you simply outgrew a division, ate yourself out of it, got GTFO out of it, or are jusy title hopping. Those are the cases of moving up in weight 95% of the time.

So in that 5% of the time you claim, it means greatness. If GGG had gone up to fight Ward, had he won, he would be looked at totally different.

Well, when both were asked by HBO, 3G said yes, Ward said no due to his injury/propmoter lawsuit.

Because everybody had a big yap until he offered to meet them in the ring.

Mayweather said he was 'easy work' but when GGG said he'd make 154 for him, Floyd had to go polish his head all of a sudden.

Froch was 'too big too strong' but when GGG offered to meet him at 168, apparently his wife said he couldn't.

Ward said he'd fight at 168 but when GGG's team floated the idea he got cold feet too.

    etc etc

    Because he was smart?

Why would dilute his most prominent attributes by fighting larger opponents for potential losses in divisions he doesn't belong.

Doesn't make a lot if sense imo.

Well maybe, if he got the decision.

Kovalev fought and beat Ward, and Ward's judges scored it for Ward.
In the rematch, Ward didn't need the judges. The ref did the job for him.

he fought at his natural weight he wasn’t cutting stupid amount of weight to get an advantage over smaller guys, the reason most move up a weight is the cuts get too hard

3G was often under 170 a month out from his fight night. And not to mention, I guess eff 3G for wanting to unify all MW.

Oddly enough, being undisputed and NOT cutting weight is now what guys seem to respect today. Just weird.
