Evening Guru, hope everything is well pal

This is a question I was mulling over the other day when looking back on Glen's career. It seems at MW, he went on a 32 fight win streak, but when he moved up to super middleweight his record makes for painful reading, his best win being Allan Green :-(

I wonder why Glen was such a success when moving up to LHW? After being outboxed by Sven Ottke, Johnson went on to destroy Roy Jones, and then beat Antonio Tarver. Maybe Glen discovered some kind of magic power? Maybe the fighters up at light heavyweight weren't as good as their fanboys would have you believe :think

    What do you think EG?

Jones was pretty much done, IMO, once Tarver knocked him cold. Not sure how many people on ESB pump up Tarver, but his inactivity tended to underwhelm me.

Simply put, Johnson was fresher than Jones and more active than Tarver, who he still had close battles against. The division after that, was really weak.

There were fighters who saw Johnson as a threat at 168lb.

Are you saying there might be a fighter who wasn't looking for tough fights during his prime and went so far as to publicly state so?

Who might that be? And did he ever face Johnson?

Evening Champ, it does rather appear that Glen Johnson will be remembered as a pivotal figure in boxing history for historians to evaluate the strength of weight divisions during his boxing era.

A 32 fight winning streak ended by the legendary Bernard Hopkins at 160

A traumatic career fighting in the tough as teak 168 division consisting of 5 victories / 8 defeats

Another 'world class' stint in the 175 division with victories over the era's finest such as Jones, Woods, Tarver, and Dawson (in the mind of any neutral observer).

It really does make you wonder why Johnson failed to compete with the elite at 168? :think

So far your contributions in this Team Elite superthread are a bloody disgrace FP. Either buck your ideas up and discuss the matter in hand or leave the thread for honourable gentleman to debate without your persistent trolling.

  15. Terrific thread. Johnson always was a journeyman plodder, although he gets credit for travelling and fighting all and sundry. Unlike reluctant Roy.:rofl:patsch
