Why was Golovkin so tentative at the start?

Maybe, but do you think he can knock out any super-middle titlists?

Canelo is harder to hit than Jacobs and Lem.

Yes I suppose, if your viewing him as a prime GGG. Or close to prime, but as a big fan of gennady as I am I kind of expected what happened. I didn’t want the fight to happen

Because Golovkin fights two different ways depending on the opponent.

Runs through Kell Brook - Boxes safe against Jacobs
Boxes cautiously against Canelo 1- Runs through Vanes M like a wrecking ball
Boxes safe behind the jab against Calelo 2- Unloads the all the canons recklessly against Steve Rolls.
Produces another box performance against Sergiy D - Takes a street brawl to Szarmenta and Murata

Can you see the pattern? When GGG knows the opponent isn't a bum he can break apart , his style completely changes. Thats been the case since the Jacobs fight.

He was trying to outbox Canelo like he did the first two, but Canelo was too fast.

Murata was an old fighter himself, a middleweight, and not the level of Canelo

Canelo schooled him until he gassed

Canelo isn't the first fighter to cry injury

Probably because the cards were fair

Ended the rivalry with a show of respect

He is wiser now, that's a fact

Almost everyone gave Golovkin the last 4 rounds.

    Troll harder.

In all his fights, he throws vicious shots to knock out his opponents. We saw none in 3rd Canelo fight.

What do you mean again? The 2nd fight was punishing for both, but Canelo was and is much younger.

40 years old. Stamina , speed , reflex no longer what is was. So go all out and get knocked out or pace to 12 rnd and pray for a luck shot. He did the later.

Martirosyan is no bum. He fought on even terms with Lara with a tech draw and close loss. He should have got the win over Charlo as well. I get your point though. It is a fighters prerogative how he fights each fight and why.

I haven't read all of the posts here, but one big reason Golovkin was hesitant was due to Canelo's speed. Canelo's speed has always been an issue. Also, Canelo has managed to punch harder than he had been in the lower weights where he previously campaigned. How that's possible? Come to your own conclusions. Maybe he's one of the rare guys who's been able to carry his power up, but I find it suspicious when an old Cotto can take flush shots and not be wobbled but these bigger guys are KO'd.

Anyway, Golovkin was having problems timing and being quick enough to get out of the way of the punches. Canelo has always been fast, and that speed caused an older Golovkin a lot of problems in the beginning of the fight. Plus, it takes older fighters more time to get going in a fight. Plus, I believe Canelo's threats of KO'ing Golovkin were taken to heart by GGG, and he was going to be damned if his legacy as having one of the best chins ever was going to be ruined. Usually, there are a lot of reasons, but if I had to pick one about them all, it would be that Canelo's speed was very difficult to deal with for an older GGG.

Because he had no intention of winning the fight?
