Why was Hopkins beating Trinidad considered such a big win for Hopkins?

Yeah really working towards a Jones Jnr rematch by out pricing himself when Jones was the bigger attraction, owned a win over Hopkins and would have given Hopkins a massive payday :patsch.
    Keep telling yourself

Lance_Uppercunt has really shamed himself now :patsch. Excellent post Headbanger gave Uppercunt some questions which posed him problems causing Uppercunt to have a melt down on the keyboard.

Well, Tito was lighting up everyone he fought back then... Hopkins gave him a boxing lesson and beatdown. And this was after Tito destroyed Joppy a pretty solid middleweight who happened to be champ... I think this was a good solid win for Ex...

Calzaghe fought only bums and old men.

This should be written down more often.

    this is ridiculous

firstly, at that time, tito trini was coming off of a big win against DLH and had just won against joppy, and was considered by most commentators to be one of the top P4P fighters in the world. Most casual fans were expecting a tito victory.
Hopkins on the other hand, was not very well known to the general public, and was considered to be a solid, but not spectacular fighter that reighned in a not-so-strong division, and had lost to RJJ a few years before, and drew with Mercado(?).............he wasnt considered in tito's league
then, lo and behold, b-hop does everything DLH does and does it better, dismantling tito in a manner that no one, even hopkins fans expected.

Yea, at that point Tito was everything hype wise. He'd "beaten" De Lay Hoya, destroyed Joppy as you mentioned, and yea there was alot of talk of a mega-fight with Roy Jones. Plus if I remember correctly Don King basically created that tournament for Trinidad probably in hopes of meeting RJJ at 168.

Tito lost to Oscar, but Don King's judges gave him a split decision. Hopkins was a big middleweight, Tito was not. Hopkins was too big for Tito and Oscar gave him the blue print to outbox him, which he not only did, but stopped him.

So this talk about Tito being small is really "small" minded. Aggressive fighters are amongst the easiest to gage when they move up in weight. If their style is rendered ineffective because their power isn't showing or they seem a tad bit slower or they have to alter it to a more defensive/elusive style to compete then they are in a weight class that is too far north.

But Tito had an easier time with Joppy than he did with Vargas, Reid or De la Hoya.

Think of it like this; Tito Trinidad beat Joppy more impressively than:

    Bernard Hopkins,
    Jermain Taylor,
    and Lucien Bute.

And these fighters were all at their natural weight.
Bottom line: Hopkins wasn't to big for Tito, he was too good for him. Big difference.

tito had a lot more talent and was a better boxer than hopkins.. he lost that night to a great performance by hopkins.. but tito at 147 showed better boxing skills, power, ring movement and speed than hopkins ever had
