I wouldn't call LEE garbage by any stretch. I think that Manny Stewart should take the heat in this. HE'S the one that OVER INFLATED Andy's status in every platform he's accessible to.
just watched this fight. Vera is **** man wtf are you on about. Of course he was the underdog. just an upset like the ton of upsets we've seen in boxing. Andy Lee was really quite **** too. just about the worst stoppage i've ever seen. stops the fight as Lee is landing a punch however i think that in an immediate rematch Lee would be the favorite again
i just dont see how this was an upset brian has fought the better opposition and even came out in the contender....so popularity wise, vera had a bit over andy too........
Whether you agree or not Lee was being proclaimed, as the next big thing by Manny Steward and others. Vera was brought in as the opponent to make Lee look good. It was all going to plan until Lee's stamina let him down, and he let Vera back in the fight. Vera was winning the 7th hands down, but there is no way the fight should have been stopped, not while Lee had just landed a solid left in return.:verysad
Whatever. Lee is still a better prospect than Vera. He has much better physical tools, but last night made it evident that he still has a LOT to learn. There were some positives to take out of last night for Lee 1) He was able to stay on his feet despite being hurt numerous times, which should be very useful once he learns how to tie someone up properly. 2) A 67% connect rate is great, even against someone who doesn't move well like Vera. 3) Was still as awkward as ever, and when he stuck to the gameplan, Vera had a tough time getting inside. 4) Can't really question his heart or his chin all that much now, both of which hadn't really been tested before last night. Neither is great, but neither is bad either. Major improvements do need to come for him to reach the next level: 1) He needs to learn how to wrap guys up properly if he wants to continue to fight tall. 2) He needs to add to his inside arsenal. Merely having a usable left uppercut or left hook to the body probably would have prevented last night's fight from ever getting to the 7th. Right now those punches are rudimentary at best. 3) He needs to hold his hands higher. With his awkward stance (which is REALLY old school), he's never going to be great at evading punches, but he needs to at least be able to block those that come his way. Vera shouldn't be landing 43% on anyone. 4) He still needs a lot of work on his stamina. He seemed wiped out after about 5 rounds. Had he been able to maintain a consistent workrate with his jabs (which he stopped throwing, ultimately leading to his demise), he would have cruised to victory. Vera couldn't get in against his jab, which has the makings of becoming a very good jab but isn't quite there yet. If he's able to throw 40 of them a round for 12 rounds, almost anyone would have trouble getting to where they can hurt him.
SO MANNY WAS THE ONE DRIVING THE YPE TRAIN HUH... and wether it was going to plan or not, it's a 10 round fight and every second counts.....the ref did stop it a bit too early, but even manny said it was a good stoppage.....he would've been badly hurt anyways, vera was landing every single sloppy haymaker he was throwing.....not a good sigh for a young up and comer....
Just seen the fight and it seems that inexperience was the downfall for lee here. Loading up up with his left all the time and as Atlas consistantly pointed out Where Was the Right Hand!!atsch Vera didn't strike me as anything special and I believe that Lee would win a rematch if he makes the right adjustments. Lee can probably go on to world class but he'd have to be well matched to pick up a title. Might just fall a bit short.
