Why was Joe Louis so good at beating super heavies and by knockout?

Louis tended to annihilate his super heavyweight opponents, in fact one may say those were his easiest fights. It was the smaller men like Conn, Charles, Walcott, Schmeling and Marciano who troubled him.

Louis may have had an easier time against Lennox Lewis than Mike Tyson

Very astute. One more thing i noticed is how a 5'9 Marciano is one of just two people to stop Louis. Not gonna suggest anything here, but Canelo and Mayweather are also 5'9...

I mean, Carnera, Buddy Baer and Simon weren't that good.

I mean, full credit being a giant killer, but these guys were not exactly Lewis or Bowe, here.

Exactly because the giants of his era simply weren't that good.

It’s not a complete mystery when you consider that bigger also equals slower, less mobile and a larger target.

Quite a mouth watering prospect for a fighter so technically sound as Louis with the formidable weight transcendent power he carried.

The giants Louis vanquished might not have been the quality of a Lewis, Bowe etc. but Louis would still take degrees of said smaller man advantages into fights against the likes of Lewis etc.

Joe decimated the giants of his day, so there is good wiggle room there and he’s not necessarily going to come apart at the seams against better quality behemoths even if they present as tougher fights.

    Seriously, man?

I mean, you know some of Carnera's fights were fixed, he didn't punch his weight, and he was notoriously chinny?

Baer, just look at his record and the inferior fighters that routinely got the best of him.

Not even going to bother answering about Simon.

Carnera and Baer were world heavyweight champions and Simon was a top rated contender. So let's do the math:

Max Baer was a heavyweight champion and Lewis was a heavyweight champion.

Primo Carnera was a heavyweight champion and Riddick Bowe was a heavyweight champion.

Abe Simon was a top contender and David Tua was a top contender.

Why was Joe Louis so good? This guy named Blackburn carried his spit bucket really good.

    Buddy Baer, not Max.

Carnera and Simon's shortcomings are well known. I am not going to waste my time. If you think Carnera is comparable to Bowe, you are a minority of one.

    Good luck to you.

Louis lost his power during the 18 months between the Mauriello and Walcott fights before that he was just fine at knocking out smaller opponents. Walcott and Marciano shouldn't be favorably compared to other Louis opponents on account of those fights especially not in terms of durability. Louis simply was not capable of getting automatic knockdowns anymore.

Maybe because the super heavy s weren't robust enough for a guy like Louis.
You have be pretty tough to go far with Louis.

That’s not much of a criticism. Bowe and Lewis are the two best super heavy weights of all time.

Mike Tyson is on camera admitting some of his fights were fixed. Does that discredit his entire career and abilities as a boxer? Unlike tyson though, you don’t even have concrete evidence of primo having fixed fights. Just some baseless allegations. Carnera is far from the only boxer to have such allegations.
a guy who went 11 rounds against Max Baer with a rolled ankle is Chinny? How does that make sense?
