Why was Joe Louis so horrible?

As the forum's chief poster and most seasoned boxing historian, I must say that the myth of Louis's greatness needs to be addressed and I mean right now.

Louis's record was so horribly padded, new term needed to be coined to describle his poor opposition. Max Schmeling, a 199 lb German fighter, pummeled a peak Louis in their first match. Jim Braddock was 33 years old, off for two years and had a journeyman's record, but decked Louis. Buddy Baer and fatass Galento were two of the most crude fighters in history but had their moments against Louis. Billy Conn was a lightheavyweight who's own mother picked to get killed, and he schooled Louis for most of their fight.

    Louis's resume is very poor..

The first word that comes to mind is disrespectful, but it wouldn't be enough to say that without including an adjective like, incredibly or extremelly or any other word that would describe your statement, but I can understand as I felt the same way you did before actually watching the man fight.

It was just a numbers game, but if you watch him fight you will realize that he would also be the dominant champion today, knocking out both Klitschko brothers and having far too much skill for any other opponent.

His only challenge that I can think of at this moment would be David Haye who fights somewhat similiar to past fighters, but I'm not sure if he had the nerve or resolve that fighters from Louis' era carried.

Either way, I'm not gonna call you out and say you're an idiot, but you need to check yourself.

Yeah and while we are at it we need to completely re-evaluate Ali.

The obvious fix in the Liston fights to buy the championship is your first clue. And his record - OMG - I mean really!! Losses to Berbick, Holmes, Chinny Kenny Norton, Smokeless Joe Frazier and Neon Leon Spinks - how can he even be any damn good and lose to such a collection as this - forget about him ever being great. Dubious decisions galore and gifts like the Jimmy Young fight and Doug Jones robbery.

Ali is worthless I tell you - incompetent would be a compliment.
I would rank him below Louis.

    And I do

We are simple people unable or unwilling to see the *****s in Louis's record.

As a seasoned and respected historian your energies would be better spent in discusion with like minded people in the general forum.

I take it you mean this thread to be a comedy. Because I'm laughing.

If not, I'll give you a serious response.

Nice post, but writing long and elaborate explanations to stifle a troll is probably not the best use of your time....

Today I looked down at my pants and a thought occurred to me: "I have no idea where I got these pants" I thought. And I didn't. I really, truly didn't.
