Ok, I know that I'm the new kid on the block, and if I'm speaking out of turn then please forgive me. But.........I can't help believing that everyone, or at least most of you on this board are aware of the crime that was apart of por boxings past history. Which would mean that most likely many of boxings champions were involved in fixed fights. I'm a big Rocky Marciano fan and was crushed when I read that many of his title fights were fixed by the mob. Yes, I know, just because I read it in a book does not make it fact. I look at it like this - maybe some of those fights were fixed and maybe they weren't. So what. The fact that men like Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, Rocky Marciano and everyone else to slap on who made their living in the squared circle getting the holy hell beat out of them deserves to be respected. I don't care if you don't like Joe Louis and think his career was a scam. The man had the guts to get inside the ring and fight. I did some boxing when I was around 13, 14, but wasn't very good. Why? Because I couldn't get used to being punched in the face. Hey, you might be a world champ or just a kid like me, but those punches
really hurt. Look at the punishment Marciano's opponents took. But they didn't quit, which I would have done after he hit me with the first blow. So, whether you think its fake or not keep this in mind, Woody - the punches and injuries are real.
I'll get off my soap box now. Thank you for hearing me out.
    Bob

Honestly I think the Klits have a good shot against Louis. Louis wasn't very active on his feet, and I think the Klits will try to keep him at distance with their jabs. They're much bigger, Vitali has a great chin, and they're very talented big men. I'd take Louis over Wladimir but against Vitali it could be interesting, IMO.

I think the real question here needs to be " what made Joe Louis so exceptional? "

He was a gifted boxer/puncher who could basically do it all, go the distance, knock you out early, pound a man to submission, and even take a pretty good shot. His lightening quick combos look impressive even on primitive camera technology. The man fought boxers, punchers, giants, veterans, top contenders, slicksters and prospects. He did it all...

I wish the world still had a man like Joe Louis in it both as a fighter and as a person.

yea the one that he got his nose split, that was really make - up and you really did not think Archie Moore could drop him, oh yea the first Walcott fight was fixed they took it into the 13th of a gruiling affair to make it look good and that right hand was really a short slap...and by the way...Joe Louis made it look good also by taking that right hand...boy they really looked real...almost as real as the ancor punch Ali landed on Sonny

I could have bought the ancor punch if Liston was flopping outside the ring like Louis was.

Louis went out to make it look better, evey one knew that. Liston should tke lessons from Louis in thowing fights and making it look real.

I hate to say it but when you quit in the ring you should have quit as a fan....How can you think Marciano's title fights were fixed if he got his nose split open to the bone by an elbow....and why would he be behind vs Walcott and dropped by a bomb of a hook (perfect punch) and wait until the very end of the fight...if the fix is in you dont wait 15 rds and get cut and worn...you do it like Liston did....do you think because Marciano was Italian the mob wanted him to win..then what happened to Primo..The mob likes one color...its not white or black...Its Green..and Marciano was square and fair like Joe Louis

Poor Don Cockell.Hit low, head butted,Rabbit punched, and allegedly even kneed in the bollocks! Brutalized till he didn't know what side of the ropes he was on.It was very good of Don to take part in that cosy little fix.

I do note he defeated all of the above.

Louis didn't dance like a ballerina or swing wildly like an orangatang, he was a boxers boxer, perfection to watch.
