Agree. It reminds me of the old high school "I'm not really trying so it doesn't matter if I fail" mindset. I thought he'd have grown out of it by 35.

He needs to learn some kind of defense mechanism related to making his opponent’s punches miss him.

I think it’s in the transitional phase between deciding between fight or flight, I have witnessed it firsthand.
Those who do not naturally snap into war mode in the face of adversity, show these odd behaviours because they simply don’t know how to react, they have to assess and then respond. He was even talking to people in the crowd. It’s clear to see because there should be no other reaction apart war. There should be no thought process, immediate action.
It comes from those who are capable not automatic aggression. It’s also not a con.
This doesn’t mean they are any less worthy fighters, it’s just not their natural default.
Ultimately it is hesitancy, i think it’s noticeable for what it is

Much of the talk pre fight was about he would be confident and relaxed on the big stage and young Daniel would freeze.

Instead it was AJ who froze and looked like a deer in headlights. When hurt in round 1 instead of loosening up, he just reverted to a smug look on his face, and backed out in straight lines leaning back.

The tongue out thing is definitely an act when he is serious hurt and has run out of ideas.

It's full cope. He's like a cat; kills him to get caught looking stupid and then he can't help but make it worse. Did he take the mic out of The Champ's hand in the post fight interview tonight? His celebrity is the foundation of his sense of self worth despite all of the other awesome aspects of his being. That has to suck.

When fighters do that, it seems to only cause the opponent to become more committed to getting the stoppage. If you're legitimately hurt, why would you smile and stick your tongue out. Your best chance for survival at that point would be to realize the danger you are in, focus more on defending, and bite down on your mouthpiece. The last thing you would want to start doing when you're tired or in trouble is clowning around. That's frankly amateurish and not smart, if you want to survive to come back or stay in the fight, you don't start acting like a clown. It's even more embarrassing to be stopped after sticking your tongue out.
