Why was Joshuas first match with Ruiz stopped ? He was still on his feet

Nobody stopped him he quit

 

Everyone can see he quit, and that he was badly concussed.

He never recovered from the first knock down.

 

Joshua was indicating with his body language that he didn't want to continue so the ref stopped it.

I think Joshua was used to having friendly refs who'd give him a bit of leeway, so he was trying to squeeze some extra recovery time but the ref called his bluff and waved it off.

I think it was the Parker fight(?) Where Parker hit Joshua in the head and Joshua looked at the ref and complained and the ref told Parker off, for an example of Joshua used to the refs being nice to him

 

People might wonder why Jack Reiss gave Fury every chance to continue despite looking out for a few seconds on the canvas yet AJ was waved off while on his feet.

The answer is that the refs are looking for signs that the fighter is willing and able to continue after being hurt. And Jack saw that Fury was keen to keep trying (eye contact, nodding, trying to win the ref's approval on his feet) while the other ref saw that AJ was not enthusiastic about continuing (spat his mouthpiece out and was walking away, unresponsive to the ref who was talking to him). All fighters know they must convince the ref they are keen to keep fighting.

AJ found himself in a similar position to Monroe in the Golovkin fight. Monroe wanted out and got up slowly, actually trying to 'just' lose the count. But funnily enough the ref wouldn't count him out and Monroe eventually had to admit he was quitting. AJ came just short of that but it was the same thing, he wanted out and wanted the ref to do it.

In troof the reason AJ ended up in that position of needing to quit his way out the fight is because his chin isn't actually that bad (simply because he's huge, it's still not great for his size) and because Ruiz has low power at HW. So instead of Ruiz being able to cleanly stop him, AJ just kept getting up able to continue. So in the end he had to look for a way out himself.

 

Ref was being extra generous to him, and gave him time to recover - part of the script.

AJ's eyes were glassed up. He was done, was getting knocked down all over the place whilst concussed.

 

He was done. Wouldn't say he quit but he was concussed and looked it.

The ref deemed him unable to continue and stopped the fight. Pretty normal stoppage looking at the fact that Ruiz mopped the floor with AJ 4 times at that point. Joshua looked out of it even tho he said he wanted to fight.

AJ didn't quit, if he did he wouldn't have kept getting up.

He wasn't asking the ref to save him, he wasn't being arrogant or anything like that.

He was concussed and all his head or body knew was to get back up and keep going. He had nothing left the ref gave him every chance to get his wits about him. But the body and brains n were not on the same wavelength.

 

After all these years this stupid ass comment infuriates me. How? How did he quit?

I know he was beat up, but he quit with his actions other fighters get beat up and don't react like that
