So you come in at a good 238-248 for your other opponents but come in at 260 for the biggest fight of your career?

It wasn't the biggest fight of his career (he fought Ruiz for the WBA title before that), but 2nd biggest yes.
He was just ahead of his time, nowadays almost all American heavyweights are fat, lazy and/or out of their league to begin with.

I would say since he knew he could not outbox him, minus well gain some weight to increase your chance to go the distance rather than get KO'd

Good 230 - 240? Did you ever see Kirk fight at those weights? Even at those weights he had love handles and looked like he could lose another 10 to 15 pounds. He was always a lazy fat ****.

Hewas Canadian you dumb ****. And no Ruiz wasnt the biggest fight of his career VK clearly was. Coming off the Lewis fight he was considered the 2nd best heavyweight out there and there was a lot of hype for that fight. The Garden I think was sold out and there was a sick blizzard here that day and the place still managed to be jammed packed.

And to answer the TS question I really dont know to this day it still boggles my mind. I think maybe coming off the injury training for the Lewis fight he packed on a lot of weight and didnt have enough time to lose it before the fight. Kirk was a pretty good fighter when he was in shape. I'd pick him to beat most of the heavys today at his best. He just always had no discipline and was a bit of a head case.

:lol:well said. about johnson's weight that fight, other posters say could've been he didn't train too hard because he didn't fancy his chances or it could've been he thought the extra weight would help his power against such a big hw (u'd think he'd have enough heart tho to try and pack on muscle rather than fat). guess it is hard to say

Kirk is just one of those boxing enigmas. He seemed to have talent and could have done better for himself.
