Why was Manny so hyped up?

Easy work at catch weights don't fool yourself he was matched very shrewdly,and before someone starts he is a great fighter just overrated in my opinion.

 

I'm not fooled at all. His accomplishments are not to be overlooked as "easy work". He's faced all the best fighters of his era and had a total of 3 catch weight fights. His fight with Cotto, Marg and JMM were the only catch weight fights and NONE were "easy work". People like to find ways to discredit and dissect any TOP level fighters career and it's actually a "right of passage" to have these kinds of criticism as it solidifies greatness. People have over analyzed Robinson's resume....they've done it Leonard, Louis, Marciano, Floyd and even PAC. So there's a lot of "fans" in any sport who question greatness of guys who are in the Hall of Fame or are considered ATG's...but it all comes with the territory of being a true great. Which is NOT "easy work" to reach this level.

 

I think pacquiaos first win over barrera is his best win ever.

Not a hype job but some of his wins are over hyped.

This isn't unfair imo. Let's say his hype was at its highest in 2009 after knocking out Hatton. His KO% at that point had dropped slightly to 67% but 73% of those knockouts had come during or before the 5th round. I also think there was some residual hype from the fact that he had had two 5 KO streaks, a 7 KO streak and an 8 KO streak.

Then I don't quite get the context of your original reply to me. I didn't bring up anything about KOs.

Like I said, I think he was so hyped because he was (and still is) so good. This can't be ignored. First and only 8 division champ, great resume, fan friendly style.

 

That was the question why was he so hyped to the public and anyone can see he is a great fighter and he has a fan friendly style. But do you really think his resume is great?

 

Do you consider Ray Leonard a 4 or 5 division champ?

Undoubtedly. His resume is one of the best in the last 30 years in this sport.

 

Relax.....So he's a 4 division champ? I consider him a 5 but I don't knock anyone who claim he's not a 5 division champ due to the catch weight. I'm not one who is against catch weight fights when it has to do with exceptional smaller fighters who are looking to move outside of their natural weights to face bigger opponents. There have been amazing fights made because of the introduction to catch weight in the sweet science. And I'm all for great fights.
