That seems about right.....a lightweight fighting at least a juniormiddleweight version of Mayweather.

Already being quicker, faster, and having a height and reach advantage, a bloated Marqeuz still had to contend with a the strenghth of at least a juniormiddleweight version of Mayweather.:patsch

Something that has'nt been discussed, I think what must have happened for Mayweather to refuse to make weight was that he must have weighed himself the day before the weighin and found himself too many lbs away from reaching 144 lbs.

Who's to say he was'nt a fair ammount of lbs away from reaching 144 lbs and decided, "those extra 2 lbs are going to kill me. I'll walk into the ring weakened if I have to lose those 2 lbs."

At this point someone (GBP) needed to inform Mayweather that this very situation is the reason why Marquez agreed to fight him at a catchweight. For the reason that Mayweather may struggle to make the weight and be uncomfortable in it.

......but there was nobody to go to bat for Marquez. GBP did not want to lose Mayweather for future fights, and so according to Nacho, Marquez was pretty much given the choice "re-sign the contracts the morning of the fight to signal a 146 lbs fight, or go back home to Mexico.

Its not comprehensible for some of these idiots in this thread who have said, Marquez should have just packed up and not fought Mayweather if he thought he was at a disadvantage. (it was just 2 lbs)

Yeah, Marquez was going to leave the biggest payday of his career 3.8 mil + PPV upside, he's going to leave that on the table and go home because Mayweather refused to lose 2 lbs.

Bottom line is that Marquez was a proffesional given the circumstances, and Mayweather was unproffesional.
Mayweather was a BOZO with no respect for his proffesion or those who paid money to watch the matchup.
Mayweather made a farce out of the whole event.

Mayweather doing what he did to Marquez is the equivalent of him signing to fight Sergio Martinez at a 156 lbs catchweight, to then have Martinez the night before say, "**** it, I cant make 156 lbs, I'm coming in at the full 160 lbs middleweight limit."
I wonder how many Mayweather fans would be happy with this scenario?

Since official weighin's for years now are conducted the day before a fight, HBO has gotten into the habit of weighing fighters right before they enter the ring
Mayweather refused to be weighed right before the fight.

Several experts in the know, trainer Emmanuel Steward for example was of the opinion that Mayweather looked much bigger than Marquez, and estimated that he was above the juniormiddleweight limit at the moment he entered the ring.

Believable as in the Mosley fight, he wasn't too much smaller than Shane as I thought and Mosley usually comes in at 160 as a welter.

Because he didn't sign the contract to. If Floyd didn't want to be drained he should've signed a contract to a weight he knew he would be drained at.

JMM fought once north of 135, while Money May, who fought many times at 140-154, even 'cheated' JMM and put a last-minute contract that the fight will be fought at 147. Officialy, Money May didnt cheat, but in the eyes of fans, HE CHEATED!

That's not the point. Floyd and Marquez agreed on a catchweight of 144. So, cheating is okay? I thought Floyd wants to level the playing field.:rofl

cotto and pacquiao are professional enough and both made the agreed catchweight. marquez also is professional enough to to make the limit catchweight. the way you see things, it was marquez who actually tried to cheat floyd by making him come down to 144.

I made it clear in the first post I made that it was unprofessional and that I don't agree, that isn't the point.

I beg to differ that Mayweather didn't officially cheat Marquez. He Cheated by having the original contract pulled and changing the contracted weight from 144 to 147. The contract by law has to be submitted no less than 3 days before the event when it is televised. There is no way this could have happened without the commission official approval. Which means the fight weight was officially set at 144 and changed after the weigh-in to 147. Anyone wishing to offer another possible alternative should first understand that that Mayweather paid $600k for the two pounds overweight. If as Mayweather states, it was a welterweight limit fight, then why the hell would he pay an additional $600K to Marquez? It was clearly an "official cheat" by Mayweather.

Why did Floyd want to shell out 600k and why did he weigh in only two lbs more than JMM? Better yet why did Floyd decide to balloon his weight after the weigh in?
