Mayweather came in at 146. The Cotto/Pacquiao catchweight was 145.

Physically, I don't think it was too big a deal. It wasn't like Floyd overpowered Marquez. It's a ***** move nonetheless, agreeing to let a guy move up 2 weight classes and meeting him by having to only drop 3 pounds below the 147 limit, then changing your mind (and contract to avoid paying commission penalties on top of fees paid to JMM) at the last minute.

Not having any idea on this matter signals one thing.....you need to spend more time reading around here and less time posting.

When you have a catchweight fight like this, and Mayweather has to make a certain limit, in this case it was 144 lbs.......
This means Mayweather has to gear his training camp and implement a training program that will allow him to make the 144 lbs limit.
In Mayweather's case, he may have had to dis-allow less weight training so his muscles were less bulkier.

.....but no, Mayweather did not want to play it fair and by the contract, and decided on his own that he was going to have the added strenghth and muscle of a full fledged Welterweight when he walked up those ring ropes against Marquez.

Having already signed the contract, Mayweather has the choice to either dehydrate himself to lose those 2 extra lbs in waterweight, or have taken into account from the beggining of training camp he did'nt want to go the avenue of dehydrating all the way down to 144 lbs, and gone the avenue of less weight training.

From hearing Nacho Beristain's comments right after he was told that Mayweather would not meet the 144 lbs contracted weight limit, he pretty much let it be known by insinuating that he would not have let Marquez sign to fight Mayweather under those weight circumstances.

......of course, the predicament that Marquez was under was severe. What fighter after an exhausting training camp just packs his bags and goes home over a weight issue?

The fight went through under the objections of both Marquez and Beristain.......
......one thing was for certain, Mayweather was not going to be talked into dropping those 2 lbs, partly because GBP in itself had an interest to keep Mayweather happy as they wanted to keep doing business with him for a future Pacquiao fight.

.......so yes, essentially team Marquez did'nt have the backing of GBP to fight and have Mayweather forced to drop those 2 lbs.

You amaze me by jumping in at the end of a conversation and talking down to me, when I clearly stated in the first post I made regarding this issue that I felt it was unprofessional, and I don't agree with it. That's not the point now, the real point being discussed is how it's considered a "two weight class" jump for JMM against PBF (152 fight night weight), but he and Manny are the "same size" (147-148.5 fight night weight)?

Not suprising, you're as clueless as a month old boxing fan........

You know nothing about style issues and how strenghth is incorporated by even boxing stylist like Mayweather.

    Let me educate you *******......
.....your average fighter who's not as physically strong as Mayweather is, cannot employ the defensive tactics that Mayweather employs.

The turtle shell, the shoulder roll, the shoulder bump and lateral.......you need physical strenghth to make those tactics work for you.
....a fighter who uses the same techniques Mayweather does, but does'nt have the required strenghth, will just be run over and mauled.

Just look at the Hatton fight and tell me Mayweather did'nt need every bit of his physical strenghth to keep Hatton at bay????

    Post less, read more, *******!:deal

It's the same for Pac, although he and JMM are closer in size then Floyd and JMM ever were.

    That's ok, God created Pacquiao.

I keep telling you guys Floyd is evil. He even made Chico beat up his girlfriend/wife just so she could file charges so that Chicos mind wouldn't be on their fight. Evil Cane, pure evil.

Even 1 lb can make a big difference in lighter weights.

I dunno. Everyone always says there's too many weight divisions and how boxing should return to the original 8, but now apparently 2 pounds makes all the difference in the world? Make up your minds.

Because it's the first time a fight was made at a GUESSWEIGHT. They kept everybody guessing at what weight the fight will be.

Very unprofessional and making a fool out of the boxing public.
