Why was Paul Williams so inactive in 2007?

He's a young middleweight campaigning at welterweight. Nobody but Margarito is crazy enough to fight him. It's really that simple.

That's def not good fighting once a year when you're that young and trying to prove yourself.

 

Margarito lost that fight on his own. He started way too late and even then he made it a close fight.
A rematch would go Margos way.

Good quality fights are hard to get and poor quality fights don't pay anything.

 

Alright, let me break it down. After Williams defeated Pakau, he was firmly entrenched as Margarito's mando. Margarito fought Clottey in December and allegedly hurt his hand. After the Clottey fight, Margarito was set to fight Cotto in June. However, after mounting pressure from team Williams, Margo decided to fight Williams instead. Because of the injuries suffered by Margo, the date of the fight was set for July. Not wanting to do anything to jeopardize his big opportunity, Williams sat idle until he fought Margo.

Immediately after beating Margo, Williams called out Mayweather and Cotto. Both ignored Williams and setup their own separate super fights. With the dates filling up quickly for the fall, and with all two of the other 3 beltholders making plans that didn't involve Williams, Williams set his sights on Cintron. The fight was supposed to take place in December. However, after Vargas postponed his fight with Mayorga in September(Cintron was to fight on the undercard), Cintron curiously stayed on the card which was now to be fought in November. This of course, pushed the Williams fight back to February. Cintron of course injured himself in that fight, and Williams is now fighting Quintana instead.
