Why was Ray Robinson better at welter?

Would Robinson have hit so much at welter if any of his middle foes could have made welter?

  1. Robinson would have less trouble against Basilio at welter

  2. The Basilio v SRR bout would be the same staged at welter

Most experts agree Robinson`s best weight was welter, is this because of his great unbeaten record at this weight or was he quicker no one ever explains. Leonard was quicker when he was at welter, Duran`s punches had much more effect against smaller men and as he rose in weight he had to deal with sizable differences in reach, I don`t know if the reach factor would have applied in Robinson`s case because he usually had a reach advantage even when he moved up to middle, so what was the difference? Difficult question because of lack of welter footage but has anyone read anything old that might hint at the prowess of a welter SRR? I don`t think the old time fight experts knew as much about the science of boxing though Marciano gave a great commentary while watching Robinson v Turpin 2 on a youtube vid.
