That's the whole point. To me, the word "duck" somebody implies a fear of that fighter or a lack or belief you can beat them. Which is obviously completely farcical in this situation. If you take the term to mean not going out of your way to fight somebody then maybe it could apply here, but then there would be an awful lof of "ducking" in boxing. And its an idiot who reads anything into Witter's blabber to the media.

As regards Sky, it's not a case of refusing. Refusing would imply that somebody else had asked them to. Putting the fight on PPV is solely Sky's decision as they own the rights. Not doing so would simply have meant that people would have got to see it for free. However, Sky have been putting boxing on PPV for years (Hatton, Naz, Benn, Lewis, Calzaghe) and were aware that people would pay for it, so would have essentially been shooting themselves in the foot by not doing so.

As for Lazcano, you can't blame Hatton for taking on a slightly less demanding (still top ten ranked) opponent in comeback from a KO loss. Look at the scrub Witter took on after losing to the unknown Bradley. This was an appalling example of hyposricy after rubbishing Lazcano, who had just practically gone even with the guy who was his signature victory.

HBO were interested I'm afraid. That is well known.

I'm going to come up with a selection of excuses from Hatton for this fight never having happened, armed with quotes. I think when they are layed out infront of people they are going to realise what an absolute duck job this is.

Witter has more credibility than Hatton, he went the traditional route and has never been totally outclassed as he is a more skilled operator than hit and hug Hatton.

Hatton got totally outclassed by Mayweather

    Hatton got annihilated by Pacquiao

Hatton's stock fell even in victory against Collazo

Why? An awkward switch hitter with power is Hatton's worst nightmare

I don't think Hatton would have settled for that one, on financial grounds.

He would want a sufficient wedge, and Sky would have to go PPV for it.

That said, would Witter sell that many more PPV's than Lazcano?

Probably not, but it is still a fight that plenty of people, including me, wanted to see after Hatton lost to Mayweather.

This :deal I haven't really got anything to add, except if Thaxton and Magee were so bad, why did Witter never fight them? In fact, if memory serves correctly he actually turned down an offer to face Magee. What's good for the goose and all that, surely he should want to prove himself against his domestic rivals.

This thread is going nowhere anyway, it is simply going over old ground. The fact is that one of these fighters proved with actions not words that he truly wanted to face the elite, would step out of his comfort zone to do it and had the determination to achieve all he could. He will be remembered alongside Benn, Eubank, Naz, Lewis, Bruno etc...The other sat at home in that comfort zone fighting has beens and leftovers whilst giving it the "wudda cudda shudda" mouth. He will be a footnote in history.

His career isn't over yet, he could still go down as a better LWW than Hatton (already is in my book).

The worst post eastsideboxing has ever seen, even including any post suggesting Enzo Crapparinelli having anything which may resemble "good looks".

Please continue this thread Flint, like the thug & your mate thread.
