yeah its got to be that football fan thing

the same ones who packed out Man City ground will come and see him

I dont think many of them thought it through

it was just the brainwashed thing to do

"me and all the boys are going to the Ricky Hatton fight the weekend"

nothing wrong with that as such

but the point is 90% of his fans probaly not into boxing really

Sorry to snip your post but does it really matter how many of his fans are into boxing? And why should it refect badly on his fans that are into boxing?

Yep, you're right, I'd put it at a 75/25 split. But I still had plenty of very good conversations about boxing with the Brits over there supporting Hatton.

I know people who were in Vegas for the Mayweather fight during fight week and they said that Hattons fans were just pondlife singing that song over and over and over.Nobody should need reminding that the majority are not boxing fans but you can't knock them for supporting their own

    they thoughtless

    brainwashed by the Manchester culture

so they could blindly follow this Ricky Hatton

    and be manipulated easily

I think that its a clash of types of people

alot of people are just happy to go along with the crowd

I'm not that type of person - so thats why I am not a Hatton fan

I just could never understand why everyone loved him

but then I realised some people just go with whatever the majority thinks

Well yeah, it kinda matters because the question is WHY is Hatton so popular.

If he was so popular purely for boxing related reasons we may well be asking why David Haye and Carl Froch are not drawing such a fanbase.

Froch started late, has been inactive as was signed to a "small" promoter and Haye is still nowhere near the end of his career.

he had a very good boxing career - no arguments there

I feel Hatton was a overachiever - which is credit to him

if popularity was determined by how decent you are then Hatton be way down the pecking order

alot more decent people than him i'm afraid

he is a rude crass chav

his popularity had nothing to do with him being decent :-(

Peoples perceptions of 'decent' vary-people who live on council estates can relate to him
Also, peoples defintion of decent varies.Yours may be slightly distorted

The 2 things above are pretty similar I suppose if it sounds repetitive

At the same stage of his career as Haye is now Hatton was already drawing huge fanbases. He was drawing huge crowds to fight WBU cans. Haye hasn't got the balls to put his cash behind securing a stadium because he knows in the back of his mind he may not have the turn out to get a return on that. And that's for a heavyweight title fight.

They are like chalk and cheese commercially. There are reasons for that outside boxing, Haye is a very exciting fighter that is about to fight one of the biggest fights in boxing.

It comes down to basic business principles. Marketing to your intended audience, Hatton and Warren did that superbly and it escalated further and further.
