Lennox is a superstar....if he walked through a shopping mall in the UK he'd be swamped by boxing & non-boxing fans

Can't say the same for Roy Jones, he probably isn't even recognised by most Americans who don't watch boxing

he was a superstar, he and dlh were the biggest stars at one point if my memory serves me correctly, outside of the HWs. He did have the problem that many others have, which is lack of competition. he was so good he made everybody look like they shouldn't be in the ring with him, and it probably did hurt his superstar status somewhat. But he was definitely one of the most recognizable figures in the sport in the mid 90s-early 2000s.

    I mean...

    ° michalchewski
° hopkins (who challenged him after the tito bout and roy refused because he wanted no 50/50 same as floyd, dumbass)
    ° calzaghe (@ super midd.)
    ° ottke (@sm)
    ° benn/eubank
    ° juan carlos gomez (@cruiserweight)
    ° holyfield or tyson (@heavyweight)

it is not, like that there were "no big names" to build stardom there...

I truly believe he would have had an chance, maybe not vs a prime tyson (100 % not =), but against the way past prime tyson from the mid 90's. had he won a mega fight like that, he wouldve been more famous than floyd or pac.

I mean ruiz was taller and weighed more than tyson, so where wouldve been the problem. afraid of getting kod, now what is now lebedev doing to him, and all that because he didnt know when to stopp at the right time and when to fight the big fights when they mattered.

I just got done watching the Reggie Johnson fight and it felt like I was watching Pac Mosley even though Johnson was a legit opponent

Certainaly as a Brit I had never heard of RJJ till I bought and played Fight Night. Even in the game he looks kinda ordinary compared to the other fighters who all have overblown physiques anyway. Real life reflects this lack of distinction.

Boxing going over to Sky two decades ago surely had an effect on this. Lennox was often on terrestrial tv in the 1990s because he was 'British', but Roy wasnt.

Watching videos of his speed beggars belief though.

you dont have to be...a..."superstar"....to be one of the best.... although u might not think him a superstar..and that is fine.... everyone i kno...knows who roy jones jr is.... and most of'um arent combat sports fans..... he might of been a bigger star here in america..than other places.....

i mean they were tryin to make tyson /jones b4 he decided to go back down inweight to fight tarver....so..... think what u like...

rrj in the 90's in his prime.... noone near his weight class...in any era would of beat him..imo.....he was too gifted athletically .... although..he would of gotten ko'd in my opinion if he fought tyson...even with tyson being far out of his prime...do to tyson speed & power he still posessed....

ive found in life most of the best people at thier craft...arent the.."superstars"...key word is most...there are exceptions.....

    like floyd said

"if id had been with al haymon since the start of my career id be a billionaire by now"......either nobody around him had the idea to market himself to the urban audience or they just nixed the idea...not wanting to be flashy........but you have to remember....floyd wanted bob to promote him differently.....but bob wanted to promote floyd as the clean cut all american black kid with out of this world skills....he didnt want to let him be the floyd he is now.......so they bought out his contract....and the rest is history

Do you ever talk about anything other than Floyd? It's a rhetorical question, don't even bother trying to answer it.

Y'all were not around if you do not think RJJ was a superstar back in the day. You cannot compare him to Tyson or the holyman because the were heavyweights. Plus do not forget Oscar (who was a marketers dream) was also in the mix. I hated Tyson, Oscar and RJJ but people who went to RJJ fight were the most hyped! Where, i am from everybody knew who was RJJ was fan or not.

    :deal

The guy was a crossover star. He was in Reebok ads (had his own gear), rap videos, magizines, etc....

This is obviously the thread of a Slappy nuthugger trying to dimish a bigger star.

why the **** are you worried about who im talking about

the question is related to a black superstar boxer....the latest which would be floyd.....the question was basically asking why roy never came close to reaching the mainstream level that floyd has....
