Tyson era plus the 90's to early 2000's WelterWeight Division was packed with great fighters. Had Tito gotten past Hopkins, Roy/Trinidad would have been a HUGE event back then. He can thank Bernard for that one too lol...

prime hopkins after the tito fight vs roy also would have been huge, but roy stupid like he was didnt want no 50/50 which was fair, considering how good x looked vs tito.

and now this dumbass is getting his ass kicked for poor money against small names.

Very true, Tito was still the bigger name back then. Hopkins was relatively unknown until the Trinidad fight, but hype was definitely not a problem after that. Roy made some pretty shitty decisions.

look, even back than I remember all the hype around dariusz was, even so americans didnt know much about dariusz. I see still remember to a jones fight I saw jones fans having big poster signs saying something like "dariusz you next", something like that. I mean for a long time dariusz was undefeated, got something like 40 fights and no losses in his prime. can you imagine somebody as good as roy facing somebody with 40 fights undefeated, that's what I call hype, super story for a good build up. same with undefeated calzaghe. damn, roy couldve easily lose some pounds and challenge calzaghe who was all in talks when he defeated kessler or lacy.

he is so dumb, back than he had enough big challenges and he did not take them, because of ego or money. now he fighting everybody for a buck, to late. same for floyd, if he doesnt fight pacquiao, later he gonne hate himself for not doing that. roy would do anything for go back in time and challenge and beat prime hopkins, calzaghe or even tyson, he couldve beat them, he was that good and afterwards he would not only been considered an ath top 10, but also an boxing superstar talked about everywhere like tyson or oscar.

I'm a huge Hopkins fan, but he didn't have nearly enough drawing power to demand a 50/50 split with RJJ. He should have taken the 40% which would have been a career high payday, but instead he went on to fight the likes of Carl Daniels and Morrade Hakkar for relative peanuts.

Tyson was also explosive as a mother****er, he brought big time drama to all his fights and he made headlines outside the ring. What you're saying is true. RJJ didn't really want to kill his opponents (literally) after what happened to McClellan and it showed in his performance. He was happy just to win and let everybody walk away unharmed. That hurt his drawing power quite a bit even though everyone recognized that he was ridiculously talented. That being said, if he was a guy who was always friendly, smiling and available to journalists for a quote like ODLH he would have been much bigger at the box office. If he was a white guy, forget about it. He would have been bigger than Marciano.

to make an big fight of that magnitude 10 % difference is irrelevant in my eyes.

hopkins was considered p4p # 1 after beatin tito & oscar, so 50/50 vs roy was fair.

He didn't beat Oscar until three years later and Roy had already gone up to HW, came back down and got KTFO by Tarver by then.

"Fair" how? Like I said, Bernard couldn't draw flies to **** by himself. Roy was steady collecting $5 million licensing fees from HBO every time he fought (and it didn't matter who). Bernard was in no financial position to demand 50/50... None. 60/40 was "fair", and again, it probably would have been a career high payday for Bernard at the time. He chose to play it safe instead.

Roy did very well for himself it is just that no one in his division could ever challenge him

I think around the time Roy was at his peak, boxing dropped down a step in terms of it being a mainstream sport. It started to get less attention, well certainly in the UK it did.
