Tyson was brutally violent and people like that and in somewhat the same manner they also for Manny. Floyd exhibits exquisite skill set, but I think people really do just hate him. People hated Roy too, but not on the level of Floyd.

good points. floyd plays the bad guy and has gotten rich from it. roy never wanted to be the bad guy but i'm sure his arrogance turned off some people.

    he promoted himself.

there is a need for promoters with large stables and media connections.

look at floyd. floyd is one of the most well known fighters out there but he still uses golden boy's resources and stable to his advantage.

i think don king said it best.

i saw an interview of him a long , long time ago concerning roy.

people were saying roy had a problem of NOT HAVING AN OPPONENT to make big fights with.

don king replied , "there is NO SUCH THING as not having an opponent in boxing."

a good promoter will make you an opponent if there isn't one around.

it was $10 million vs ruiz. he was guaranteed $10 mil and then got 60% of the ppv if i remember correctly. overall i think he made around $14 mil for the fight.

And people talk **** about Bob Arum. Bob would have made RJJ triple his career earnings.

    :deal

    but Toney-RJJ wasn't PPV right?

Mosley wasn't THAT marketable and not a big time cross over star. **pretty well known to the general public though

PPV wasn't that big back then. You would reglarly see the sports biggest stars fighting on HBO and showtime. The likes of DLH, Mosley, Lewis, Jones etc would fight on HBO regularly and only go to PPV for the really big fights. In the past few years it seems like every fight is PPV and HBO and showtime only showcase up and coming fighters. Fights like Mayweather vs Ortiz would have been shown on regular HBO back then. As much as I love RJJ I have to admit that he didn't have very many PPV worthy fights back then.

Because he refused to make the kind of big fights that people would pay to see and instead chose to spend the bulk of his career fighting in ****-ant arenas in the South blowing out overmatched Mandatories and all manner of municipal workers. In essence, because he was a Glass Jawed Fraud.
