can someone tell my a good argument as to why money didn't accept the the 24-day cutoff for the testing? this is especially since pac agreed to blood testing immediately after the fight. i don't know the details of PEDs and drug testing except for bits and pieces that i've heard or read, so educate me on this one. let's say pac does juice up, the 24-day cutoff gives him a little over three weeks theoretically to juice up. but since he doesn't want to get caught, he'd have to stop well before the post-fight blood test, so that really gives him less than three weeks to get his juice. now, i have heard from guys who have taken roids and EPA(sp?) that you have to cycle through the drugs over several weeks to get the benefit from PEDs. that is, i can't just take a shitload of steroids over the next couple of weeks and expect a world class bench press - or even significantly improve my bench. all i'd get are slightly better workouts. i've been told what i would need to do is take the steroids in optimum amounts over 8-12 weeks, which in combination with the workouts, nutrition, rest, etc, would see a significant increase in my bench. with a 24-day cutoff pac may get a bit more stamina if he juiced up, but it would not be a SIGNIFICANT increase. so is the rejection of a 24 day cutoff just a sign of floyd's respect for pac and acknowledgement that this would be his biggest test, and that he does not want the slightest disadvantage? if so, why not go balls to the wall and demand random drug testing without any cutoff?
Easy. Floyd wanted random testing right up to fight night. Pac and Roach said no because it to close to the fight they would need a couple days cut off window so it aint so close the fight. Mayweather still wanted it all the way up till fight night. Roach said they would be happy with a 5 day cut off window. Mayweather made an official offer to Arum, which Arum actually lied and said they never made. It was the 14 day offer. Now if your any good at maths 14 days is almost 3 times the amount that roach was asking for. he initially wanted 5 days. So 14 days is a great compromise, considering roach wanted 5 days and mayweather wanted testing up until the day of the fight. Arum issues a 24 day cut off period. Please tell me how you go from a 5 day window to a 24 day window?
Either way this is dead in the water lets just stop talking about it Clottey stepped up to the plate :deal
Go to the bottom of the article and read what the Doctor says about a 24 day window. http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ki-pacfloydnegotiations010810&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
fair enough, so rejecting the 24-day cutoff was more about the negotiation side of things rather than floyd actually suspecting pac of being juiced (based on the answers so far). on a different note, i'm not a fan of floyd but i have to say that this has been a brilliant mind game from floyd. even if he's completely clean*, it puts a ton of pressure on pac. pac basically has to dominate and destroy mayweather in the eyes of many to prove he's been clean all this time. if he loses, or just ekes out a win, people will say that his recent destruction of bigger guys was due to no testing in previous fights, which implies PEDs. *i think he's completely clean. his physical attributes - the speed, the power, the coordination - he's had from the start. his rise in recent years has been due to his improved skillset, which as far as i know is not enhanced by drugs.
I have never taken a PED in my life, so I can only use some common sense to see how and in what way they may benefit your performance. I would think that what a PED does is make and help you train harder and longer........the PED itself is not what is making you better, its just helping you be able to take your training to another level. Having said that, I would think that you can be on a PED for a few weeks, and still reek the benefits of it even having been off of them for the next couple of weeks. ......once you reach a level of physical strenghth and stamina through PED's, that level of strenghth and stamina is'nt just going to all of a sudden disappear because all of a sudden you've gone a week or two without using the PED's........ I would think that once you've stopped taking the PED's, the drop off from having come off of them would be slow and gradual.......each few days becoming just a little bit harder to mantain the same strenghth and stamina that you had when you peaked with the PED's. For example, lets say you're doing long distance training and can only run 5 miles in 45 minutes...... ......say you peaked in your performance by running 5 miles in 35 minutes while using PED's everyday...... ......I'm speculating now, but I would think that I could go off the PED's a week before I get tested in a meet so that it does'nt show on the test, and still come pretty close to running my peak while I was using the PED's a week earlier. Certainly I'm going to come alot closer to running the 5 miles in 35 minutes, than going back to my old time of 45 minutes. The same concept could be applied to a fighter. Pacquiao for example may have been using the PED's for some time now.........he's not going to all of sudden become just an ordinary fighter by coming off of them for a month or even two...... I would think that his body would still be reeking the benefits of the hard training that he did while he was on the Ped's........ ......just that the longer he's off the PED's, the harder its going to be for him to mantain that high level of physical strenghth and stamina that he had while on them. ......which would be a reason that Mayweather would want a blood test the moment the fight is announced, and then keep on having random tests up to the night before...... If it were to be done the way Mayweather has proposed, it would mean that Pacquiao would likely have gone well over two months without the benefits of training under the help of PED's........which would mean that a good chunk of the strenghth and stamina he aquired while previously on the PED's, would have been lost. The longer the time off the PED's, the more the drop off in your performance........now, if there is a two or three week window there where you know you're not going to be tested.......you can go back on those PED's and reek some of the benefits, as its going to make you body recover more quickly for you to come back with another hard workout......and thus increasing your physical strenghth and stamina. ......you can then go off the PED's just in time not to get caught, and still not lose most of what benefited you from using the PED's. At least thats how I've understood how PED's work from what I've read of them. Having done some jogging in my life over the years, it makes perfect sense to me how a performance enhancer can help your times.
Not really. Manny would not do anything that held up to testing protocols. Next best thing is to meet down the middle as close as possible to the fight. They say 30. We say 0. Meet in the middle at 14. At that point it was about negotiation because Team Pac made it scientifically pointless.. Fights off and will probably never happen. Manny's legacy has a stain. Nobody of importance said he was dirty, but are his actions those of a clean man? Would you pass up $20-40 million dollars over a test you know you can pass?
Dude you can find that in 15 minutes on google. Google "14 days Arum". You should get both stories with him first saying "Mayweather never said it." Then another with him admitting they offered it.
It was on Box1ngsc3ne.com. Arum denied and then later admitted that Floyd did offer 14 days after Floyd made it public that he had. Arum killed this fight and then tried to lie to the media about it.
Floyd can resurrect the fight by agreeing to the date proposed by team Pac. Team Pac won't budge hence it's team Floyd that should give way. Besides, they are the one who required that useless drug test.
Arum comes out looking like a complete baffoon having said what he did. Initially he had called Mayweather a liar that he'd made that offer of 14 days. Coming off the mediation Arum wanted to make it look like Mayweather would'nt budge from his original testing up to the day before the fight. .......but Arum had no choice but to relent and admit that there was a 14 day without testing offered by Mayweather, because the mediator himself was about to come out public that the offer had indeed been made. If Arum even thinks there is a chance he can get away with outright lying, he'll make the attempt and try to get away with it. Anyone who even quotes Arum as a source for truth, freakin has to be out of their minds.
