Why was the k2 tv contract such a big deal?

So basically both are not willing to budge.

Klitschko is tied up in a tv contract that he is not willing to break, whilst both parties know that Haye will make a killing in the UK PPV market.

Haye gets slaughtered for not taking the fight, and posters are saying that he should forget about the money and take the fight, when actually Klitschko is as guilty as Haye.

Wrong. Haye is guilty because he initially demanded a no-options 50-50 split right down the middle, Wlad agreed and offered exactly what was asked, then Haye went into hiding, then resurfaces months later and says he wants more than 50-50. That's why Haye is to blame.

I wouldn't blame Haye if he said from the very beginning he wants to make more money than Wlad because he pulls in more money from the UK. But he didn't do that. Haye should never have asked for 50-50 when he knew he wasn't really happy with 50-50.

Haye increased his demands just to price himself out of the fight. That's why he gets slaughtered and rightfully so. Here's Haye's manager, Adam Booth in April of 2010, after the Ruiz fight:

It is naive to believe "haye will make a killing with uk ppv" because i am sure any uk promo will feature wladimir. whilst wladimir aint as well known as vitali, he is easily as well known as haye. wlad individually might not be a huge draw but any casual fans will soon work out he is the best out there (much like hatton vs pac/floyd) so 100% of the home revenue is absurd because the simple fact that it would sell more than if say he fought julian francis implies wlad has a hand in the sales, even if it just by his ranking and not his name.

now the only way i see haye's excuse having any weight, if he believes german ppv would generate significantly more than rtl does. rtl is a fixed offer of 2.5 million yes? so would ppv generate more than that? i dont know that much about german tv.

even if it did, k2 dont seem like the kinda people to renege on a contract.

the more i think about it, and the more info i receive (thanks guys btw) the more it looks like haye is the one lowballing wlad.

There is no PPV in Germany, there never was. There is (in all likelihood) no way to generate more than what RTL is paying in Germany. Boxing as always been on free TV in Germany. The big purses in German boxing are generated with commercials and ad-financing. RTL is the biggest commercial, ad-financed TV station in Germany, covering an audience of 100 million German speakers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Haye said he has a "rival offer" after "talking to other TV stations over there". Note how he fails to offer a name nor tell us what the offer was. Obviously Haye is full of ****. There is no TV station that could possibly pay more than RTL.

It is annoying as an english boxing fan.

i have reserved my judgement of him till i had a full picture but it seems to me that he has backed up the claims of k2.

i completely understand the previous breakdowns but now haye has the beltholder leverage he wanted, he got the 50/50 offer he wanted. and still said no.

he always took on the tough challenges before but apparently he wants no part of wlad.

if he can make more vs vitali why doesnt he push for that fight?

    i hope audley sparks him.

Agree, besides what is the no rematch clause worth to Haye? If, Haye won, however I do not ever see that happening.

Totally amazing to me.... what is it with david and Contracts.... he hates every contract he sees and now he even hates Wlads contract with RTL and wants Wlad to jump throught hoops to try and change it...

Are u ****ing kidding me. The brothers have a working relationship with RTL. They have been very good to the brothers. Who the **** does Haye think he is to demand that.... what about lawsuits if they did anything... **** haye...

you haye fans are actually accepting the excuse of "Wlads TV contract sucks so I wont fight"... WOW. which BTW.. its the biggest boxing contract in Germany... so Haye and booth are talking out of there asses that "another network will give more... even if they did... how much more... 2 million..4 million..... so 50% means haye wont fight for 1-2 million????

    I smell, I smell, I smell BULL****

Because Haye got the best possible deal from the UK (Sky Box Office.)

K2 won't listen to other stations offers so aren't getting the max from Germany.

So Haye's thinking.. "If I get the most I can from my country, and they get the most from there's, we split 50/50."

But when they wouldn't, he says "Okay, I got the best deal I possibly could for my country, so I'll keep my country's TV money, and seen as you guys wouldn't listen to other offers from Germany, you can keep Germany's TV money."

    K2 said no.

It wasn't such a big deal. It was a red herring. As far as I'm concerned Haye only entered negotiations with Wlad so he could prove to his fans that he was trying to make the fight. He knew exactly what the Klitschkos deal with RTL was from the start. He also know that if he made an unreasonable demand like keeping all of the Skybox UK pay per view, the fight would not get signed. The whole thing was one big dog and pony show that was designed to allow Haye to save face while he setup his fight with Audley Harrison. For anyone with a brain, Haye's tactics are as transparent as cellophane.

Exactly, he doesn't even deserve 50/50. :good Wlad has several belts and has defended them for years while Haye has only one belt and not nearly as many fights. People don't have common sense these days...
