Why was there never a Lewis v Mercer rematch?

    It was a close fight, I had Mercer winning via 1 round, Mercer begged for the rematch, Lewis is the alleged king of the rematches.....

    Just wondering on people’s thoughts.

    His mid 90s resurgence was curtailed by injury and illness.

    He got injured shortly after the win against Spoon, and the year after got Hepatitis.

    By the time he got back active he was on the slide. A rematch with Lewis was never really on the radar.

    Because Mercer suffered a neck injury that kept him out of action throughout 1997, then ended up with Hepatitis B after his return bout in 1998 that kept him out of action until 2001.

    Lewis' next fight was for the title v McCall.Mercer had 1 more fight that year, a win over Witherspoon ,then took 14 months off with injuries.etc
