Why was there no Eubank - Benn 3 or Hagler - Hearns 2?

I was wondering why these two matches did not happen? While Hagler won conclusively it was such a famous and exciting fight I am surprised they didn't rematch. It has long intrigued me how a second fight between them would turn out given that Hearns would almost certainly chose to box rather than slug given the first fight results.

On a slightly less exalted level why did Eubank and Benn not have a rematch after their draw? While it wasn't the most exciting fight ever (after the first one was such a barn burner) considering the bitter rivalry and controversial nature of the result I thought they would have wanted to do it again, and I think it would still have been a big fight in the UK. It reminded me a bit of Leonard vs Hearns 2, in that Hearns seemed happy that he had put the ghost of the first fight to rest despite not being given the win.

    Any thoughts?

If I'm not mistaken I believe that there were talks of Hagler vs. Hearns 2, but it fell apart and they chose Ray Leonard instead

This is correct. They had Hearns fight on the Hagler v Mugabi card, then Hearns joined Tim Ryan & Gil Clancy to commentate on the main event & they were meant to fight next, but then Leonard announced his comeback.

It would have been interesting to see a rematch in between Hagler and Hearns considering Hearns broke his hand during the fight and fought handicapped.

Certainly, Hearns had a pretty successful first round.

I'd also loved to have seen Leonard-Hearns III

Ray got in the way. He announced his comeback, so Tommy had to fight other guys like Dewitt, won the title against Andries at lightheavy and won his 4th title against Roldan..

I just don't think Tommy could have avoided Marvin for the whole fight in a rematch.

That's right. Marvin would definitely have caught Tommy and had him out of there.

Hearns busted up Hagler with a bum right hand and the doctor was about to stop the fight. It is certainly a possibility that Hearns could have lasted a little longer in a second fight and do enough damage to Hagler for a tko.

    How do you figure that?
He landed the one right uppercut. About 20 seconds later Hagler landed a left hand that took Tommy's legs and basically ended the fight. He mugged Hearns for the last half of the round.
That fight was competitive for about one minute- other than the drama over a nothing cut- which is why a rematch wouldn't have made sense.

Hagler didnt give Hearns or Duran a rematch he only gave those to guys he knew he could beat like Hamsho, then when Leonard beat him he whined about not getting a rematch.

Bingo! ,I've always said that. The fight lasted 90 seconds , finishing Tommy took just a little longer

Tommy would have had to fight a disciplined fight with his jab and tying him up, no brawling like with Roldan. But Hearns loved to brawl and that was his weakness. He just wanted to and could get into that, because he hit so hard and clean he had a hard time not going for it.

With different tactics it's feasible that Tommy lasts longer in a rematch but I just can't see him avoiding Marvin's most savage attacks for 12 rounds. Sooner or later Marvin catches his man. Maybe after coming from behind on the cards.
