Very good question. Wilder has always been a protected fighter who ducked Joshua even though he was offered 100 million USD for the fight. His fighting Fury was nothing more than a miscalculation on his team's part who always protected their one-trick-pony. The thought Fury would be easy pickings and it backfired badly. Wilder had no business being WBC champion and especially for that long anyway. The only good thing Fury did in the last 8 years was taking the belt off him. He holds it hostage too so screw him, but at least he is still a better boxer than Wilder could ever dream to be.

With another ref he has a ko win though. Wilder is a bad boxer but arguably the biggest hitter in boxing history. He has that julian jackson power which makes him dangerous in any fight he has.
Its too bad he isnt more active. I want to see him vs AJ, Usyk and even Joyce/Zhang. He would still have fun fights where he might not be the favourite but you can never count him out.

 

AJ and Hearn definitely thought he was dangerous, which is why they are only seriously talking about the fight when AJ is on the way out and Wilder has been KO'd twice and nearing 40.

Who the hell turns down 100 million dollars + the chance to become undisputed and fights a cream puff like Breazale instead? Wilder not taking that Joshua fight four years ago was one of the biggest ducks in living memory, only topped by Bowe ducking Lewis and Fury ducking Usyk.

Suppose Wilder signed to DAZN in March ... seriously, when was this Joshua fight occurring? What was the date? What was the country? What was the venue?

Because Joshua held a press conference a month before the article in your link announcing his June title defense in New York with Big Baby Miller, who then became Andy Ruiz.

And DAZN said Wilder's first fight on the deal could be with Breazeale.

So Wilder-Breazeale still takes place if Wilder signs ... and Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz still takes place.

When do Wilder and Joshua unify four years ago? Because it wasn't going to be in 2019. Joshua didn't even have belts most of that year.

And does Wilder wait ... like he's doing now ... for a full year for a Joshua fight (that still may not happen)?

The truth is there was no date. There was no location. Joshua didn't even have belts most of the year. Joshua still would've lost to Ruiz. Wilder still would've had to fight other people. Covid still would've happened the following year and cancelled most fights. After restrictions were lifted, Joshua still would've had to fight mandatories.

It all would've shook out about like it actually did ... just on a different channel.

 

But this single action of Reiss showed he's not one, but two classes above many top, but actually *hit referees. Also, I think they all should undergo some kind of education, training, call it however you like in order to properly recognize if and when the fighter is hurt, out etc...

Wilder was hyped because of his power, short and simple. Yes, we can do an analysis of his fights, I usually skip the first 10 or more, depending on the background of the fighter. He has several decent wins, but since he was dumb and cowardly enough, he didn't take the best he could and I don't mean the other one with even smaller balls Joshua because it's unclear who ducked who in their case. Wilder has his last chance to face 2-3 top 5-10 guys and eventually prove that he is at least a bit better or not if he loses.

 

It might be the devastating power, and stopping and hurting guys in ways past opponents haven’t been able to do.

You can add knocking Fury down numerous times to that.

Just maybe….

On a serious note, he has some underappreciated attributes that compliment his power well too:

He has good timing, in all his awkwardness it can be hard to see though.

The awkwardness itself is one of those overlooked attributes, and let’s give the man his props - he is a tough as nails warrior, even through all of his ridiculous excuses.

Your right!! Wilder beat Martin for a belt at HW and then he went about picking up the other belts to unify. He faced Wlad for a belt and then he faced Parker for a belt and that left one belt remaining. Which he then tried to get the fight made. Is that correct?

 

Because he KOd Fury clean, was in the Olympics with hardly a career worth noting. Pretty cool story, and a huge HW with huge power. Not hard to compute.

 

By getting the fight made, do you mean Eddie Hearn walking around New York asking people if they knew who Deontay Wilder was and then offering Wilder $5 million to fight Joshua?

Or was signing to fight Big Baby Miller in New York (who was supposed to get basically what they offered Wilder) and walking the streets bashing Wilder an example of Hearn "trying" to get the fight made?

Eddie Hearn isn't the DAZN network.

You guys have always put the two (the DAZN offer and a Joshua unification negotiation) together, like they were one and the same, and then conveniently forget that Joshua lost all his titles just after DAZN made Wilder the TV deal.

There was no unification to be had, whether he signed or not.

When all was said and done, we would've gotten the same fights, regardless of what CHANNEL they took place on.

It was a TV deal. Not a fight negotiation.

 

Wilder was offered 100m for two Joshua fights, both in the US as well as a flat 20m for to fight Dominic ****in Breazeale - who he was to fight anyway. To which he turned down, because he wanted nothing to do with Joshua.

Or any puncher for that matter.
