Why wasn't Calzaghe given more credit for his wins against RJJ and Hopkins?

There was a huge age gap. I didn't think Calzaghe won, but on paper, a W over Hopkins is a good win up through 48 years old. Even the Hopkins that lost to Kovalev at 48, would have arguably still beat seven or eight guys ranked in the top 10. That doesn't mean that the 43 year old Hops was anywhere near his prime, because athletically, his peak was around 35 or 36.

 

Everyone knows the real answer for that. Calzaghe won the fight in Roid's backyard, same with Hopkins. Why didn't they come to Wales?

You CLEARLY referred to Hopkins in that one being 43 whilst (under questioning) trying to dissociate the analogous one (30-40) from them directly. What you've just done here is directly link the two posts into one thus undermining your statement that your numbers analogy 'wasn't necessarily referring directly to them'! U just put Hopkins in your analogy ha ha ha

Same reason Mayweather doesn't get full credit for whooping Pac. If FM beat Pac right after Pac beat Cotto, then full credit would have been given. If Calzaghe had beaten Jones before Jones moved up to heavyweight, back down and knocked out, he would had been considered the best fighter in the past 25 years, no arguement. Doesn't take anything away from JC.

The Hopkins victory definitely deserves some credit, especially when it was Calzaghe's first fight overseas. Despite Hopkins' age, he was still a very dangerous opponent who was coming off an unexpected victory over Tarver and a win over Wright.

The RJJ victory was meaningless pretty much and for clear reasons. I don't even think I need to explain this one. Any Boxing fan with even the least knowledge possible should know why this victory is nothing.
