Mosley came out admittedly to using EPO, HGH and other PEDs , and yet he was never suspended, nor was he banned. He was allowed to continue fighting. Was there a backdoor agreement between he and/or his manager/promoter with the commission? Why was he allowed to continue fighting? .
Worse. He didn't come out, he was ousted by Conte and he still tried to deny it. Politics, Mosley is a good name to have on resumes, kept as a stepping stone for better fighters.
I think his PED usage came out via leaked documents, not failed tests before or after a fight. I just remember that it was supposedly EPO during the Oscar rematch - I don’t remember the other PEDs. There was probably no sanctioning body that was specifically able to suspend him, especially after the fact. Also, that was 10 years ago and anti doping in boxing hadn’t really made any head way.
Because he didn’t fail any tests. I think he got less flack publicly than many other fighters because he’s known as a nice guy and his promoter Oscar defended him. Sucks but that’s the way it is. He wasn’t caught by the commission, and VADA wasn’t doing testing of fighters then. He was taking undetectable stuff, which is what I think quite a few fighters out there do, as well as athletes in other sports.
Got to make that weight. And also injuries are a real *****, especially if tons of money is to be made.
I'd add that at that time it was vogue to use chemists to change the make up of the molecules of roids to prevent detection. And most importantly Don Caitlin had not invented the CIR test yet. Mosley was using EPO which NSAC did not test for. And for the steroids, Mosley was using a masking agent on top of BALCO's chemist modifying the steroid molecule. Then when the BALCO situation broke the FEDs deciphered the regiment schedules pointing them to Mosley. He cut a deal with the FEDs to appear before the grand jury unlike Marion Jones and we know what happened to Jones' career. The takeaway about Mosley is that he was seriously into the regiment provided to him at BALCO. Fast forward to today, the CIR test (detect synthetic test) pretty much ended the whole hire an organic chemist to swap some molecules around on your favorite steroid play.
