Simple....Paul has very good defense. It's a good as it can get with his style. The more you are busy, the more openings you open yourself up to and everyone know Paul is super busy....but he's movement and constant pressure works as his Defense and offense. It's hard to land flush on Paul b/c of his height and b/c he has such good movement with his upper body and using lateral movment. Wink is very accurate but Paul proved to be underrated regarding his "D".

Margo never had him stunned, or even close to going down in that fight... Not even close. Neither has anyone else his entire career.

And you can't really judge the Verno fight because he was cut very badly by a headbutt from Round 1, and then went on to stop Phillips after the 8th, something that had never been done.

And yeah, he got caught with a few punches by Wright, but **** man.. This is boxing! Of course Winky hit him a few times. That doesn't automatically mean Pav will have a field day with right hands....

Personally I was very impressed by the way PW handled the cut. When they worked on it between rounds he looked cool as ice!

His defense in the Winky fight was very good, no where near "horrible" he slipped a lot of Winky's shots and Winky is usually pretty accurate, so layoff or not that was a good win for PW.

no, i saw the fight a couple of times when it was first on tv, but i've been wanting to rewatch it. I haven't been able to find it and was wondering where boo radley was able to see it online. i saw it and noticed that williams was more dominant in this fight than any fight i have ever seen him in with an elite fighter. i remember people saying how winky would school williams because of the holes in his defense. i am wondering why winky had such a hard time with williams. i've been watching a lot of pavlik and williams lately sfights so i could make a prediction about the upcoming fight. i still am not sure who will win.

Winky was old and rusty having not fought in 2 years and Williams is not the kind of guy to be coming back against from a long layoff. His reach bothered Winky who said so in the post fight interview. Even in his prime Williams would have given him hell but even so I think Winky would have edged it out.

The Winky Wright from McKart 1 thru Trinidad beats Williams at least 2 out of 3, but I do think Paul would always present Wright with a tough night at the office.

Even a semi-retired Winky is a good win.

Williams/Wright doesn't really tell us much about how Pavlik/Williams will go down, but if you kick Winky's ass, you've earned the right to have Pavlik kick your ass!

I agree Winky can't punch and Paul's chin hasn't been tested yet at MW. That's the main reason why I'm picking Kelly here. If Williams had faced a puncher at MW and passed the test I would pick him to outwork Kelly but his chin is too much of an unknown at 160 for me to make that pick.

Chin is an issue, but in my opinion it is not THE issue. KP has stopped 7 fighters who had never been stopped, a couple had never even been seriously hurt. KP knocking someone out does not mean they have a chin problem.

One big issue for me is Paul's propensity for getting hit with right hands and left hooks; two of Pav's 3 best weapons. Another issue is PW's technic. Margarito stood flat footed in front of Williams and slipped his jab. That brings up PW's inaccuraccy; if you don't have power to get KP's full respect, and your innacurate, well, that is not a winning hand.

I don't think Williams was in big danger of being stopped. But I think he was definitely hurt and laying on the ropes too much near the end of that fight. Williams did come out and fight like a champion in the 12th. So had to respect that, he took the fight.

I'v4e never seen Pav look tired, only frustrated against Hop. And we both know Williams can't and won't fight that fight nor does he hold the same physical advantages. Paul may have better stamina and strength from not cutting and worrying what he eats. But at middle against Pavlik he is giving up two huge advantages he always has. Height and reach. Now there is a slight advantage for Williams but for once his opponent won't have to punch up he, will punch at him. Pavliks jabs and straight rights will be able to land at a space where Paul is normally safe.
