Why wasnt witter a draw?

he was a very fun fighter to watch back in the day, at least I thought so

 

He was a draw, he just didn't get the one fight that would have taken him from being a domestic draw, to being involved in a mega fight or two in the US. Junior needed the fight more than Ricky, unfortunately, for whatever reason, he just didn't get it, but nobody can say that he didn't want it. If anything, it was Ricky that never wanted it, his career was to precious at that point being undefeated and looking forward to the mega fights.

The fight didn't happen, either because of the numbers (like Ricky always used as the excuse) or that Witter didn't have the same sort of following that Ricky had, or just a combination of a lot of things. I don't know.

I was always led to believe F-wank was reluctant to make the fight because he could foresee Hattons later career. Also, Witter knew to much about Hatton and it could have been a dangerous fight for Ricky, as Witter had his number. It was a lose-lose fight for Ricky in that sense. Had he won, it really wouldn't have propelled him that much, in the same way had Junior won, it would have done Witter wonders.

But had Ricky lost, it could have been devastating for his career, and who's to say that none of those really big fights that he had, would have happened, had he lost the Witter fight?

Whatever the reason is, I'm sure it was political, the fight could and should have happened. And for people to still be talking about it now, so many years after, tells you people wanted to see the fight.

 

I think it also may have something to do with him both looking like a c**t and seeming to be a c**t whenever put in front of a camera.

 

The three top fighters at the time were Eamonn Magee, Ricky Hatton, and Junior Witter. All three men called eachother out (until Magee approached Witter at a press conference and told him exactly what he thought of him, witnesses say Witter almost **** himself, and never mentioned Magees name again) and Magee and Hatton ended up fighting eachother after Magee destroyed Thaxton who gave Hatton a hard 12 rounds (Dubbed "The Battle of Britain" as they were the two top guys at the time, so only fitting to have Magee come out wit hhis trademark Irish shorts)

Magees style gave Hatton all sorts of trouble early on, putting him down hard in the first and wobbling him badly in the second, before Hatton rallied and boxed well to take the decision.

After this, Hatton saw no need to fight Witter as he had just beaten the number two guy, and a guy Witter was openly afraid of, I think he kinda lost respect for Witter he **** himself so badly from Magee, yet continued to call Hatton out.

Witter needed the fight more than Hatton did, Hatton had proved long ago he was number one by beating Magee when all 3 fighters were at that level, people who say "Hatton ducked Witter and never even proved he was the best in the country" talk ****, Magee at that time would have eaten Witter alive, and Witter himself knew it.

 

i thought Eamonn Magee was a really great fighter, skillful too, just a shame he was not dedicated enough,

 

He isn't the most likeable guy. arrogant, strange. theres just something not quite right about him. also an awful style to watch.

 

Because he was boring and ****.

 

Witter was both flashy and boring to watch at the same time. He had plenty of skill and looked good once in a while, but generally he would stink the place out.

His style of fighting often consisted of standing still in the middle of the ring with his arm outstretched towards the opponent (as if range finding, but not as threatening). This would be followed by some holding and spoiling, then back to the outstretched arm thing.

When he let his hands go he was good, but he often preferred stinking the place out. That's why he wasn't a draw, and that's why he never got the fight with Hatton. Ricky would have beaten him convincingly, but it would have been possibly the worst fight in the history of boxing. (Apart from Nelson v DeLeon, obviously)

 

He annoyed me recently when there was yet another Kell Brook interview at the Ingle gym and he was literally chasing the camera around in the background whilst shadow boxing. I just thought "f**k off, you are no longer relevant"

 

Witter was a very good fighter,gave a prime Judah a good fight on 7 days notice,on his day he was a tricky switch hitter who had good power but too ofter he would stink the place out with his weird style,I think Hatton wanted the fight but his camp,Billy Graham and ****** didnt,if Magee caused him some problems then Witter would cause major problems,Witter had a good chin,Big punch,hard to hit and awkward,no wonder they didnt fancy it.
He was never a draw because he hadnt a likeable personality,and sometime was boring to watch..

 

I'm sure he was actually from Bradford mate, just boxes out of the Ingle gym.

 

Because his style is based around making his opponents look bad rather than making himself look good and is therefore boring as all ****.

 

Magee was a great fighter in his prime, but Junior was better. I never buy into that 'a fighter is scared' stuff, that's not in his mentality. Witter was world class, schooled a dangerous N'Dou (dropping him twice), and destroyed Harris. He would have beaten Magee handily.

 

Apart from being a bit dull in general I think one of the biggest culprits has to be his inept Promoter Fat Mick (He's still with him right). If Witter was with ****** he would have been a lot more well known.
