Why watch the same fights over and over again?

Strange topic, I know, and I swear I'm not trolling. But why do many hardcore boxing fans watch the same fights (mostly slugfests, apparently) over and over again? I really can't think of anything comparable in any other major sport. Do you guys still get an adrenaline rush even if you've seen a fight so many times that you basically know every twist and turn by heart? It's one thing if I haven't seen a fight in a long time, or if I want to rewatch for a particular purpose (e.g. to re-score a close fight, take a closer look at a fighter's offensive & defensive technique, resolve an argument, etc.) but there are very, very few fights I've seen start to finish more than 2 or 3 times. I'd rather watch fights I haven't seen before, in eras and weight classes that I want to learn more about (I've seen hundreds of old fights over the past few years and still have hundreds more in my youtube queue). Anyway, I'm honestly curious about this and would appreciate some input. If anyone actually read all of that, thanks for indulging me.

    Couple reasons.
The great slugfests are better than anything in recent memory.
Then theres rewatching fights like aToney McCallum 1 2 to continue to learn from. Even us older guys still want to add to whatever game we may have left.

Some to study fighters and their tendancies. How do certain fighters Adapt to movers, sluggers, counter-punchers etc. does one particular style frustrate a fighter or expose an insurmountable weakness in their game. To re score fights. To reappreciate the artistry of 2 superb fighters or technicians. Etc. just a quick answer

Same reason why people see an entertaining film such as Aliens, Ultra Violate, 5th Element, Predator, or Avatar repeatedly though they know how it will end.

I love to watch fights over and over again.. It is just study and you see something new each time. Some of my best knowledge has been watching fights over and over. I still watch Curry vs. McCallum from 1987 to try and figure how Curry got the swollen eye. I have spend the fight just watching Mike's left hand and how much it hits near Donald's right eye. Watching fights over and over is a great thing..

But for most of those objectives, isn't it more fruitful to watch a fighter in several fights instead of re-watching a favorite fight for the 10th or 20th or 100th time?

You'd probably see even more things new if you watched a bunch of Curry fights and a bunch of McCallum fights though. I've learned a ton over the past few years by watching certain fighters against lesser opponents in less high-profile fights.

Entertainment. I also get bored after watching a fight too many times. Even I need something new after awhile.

Ironically, as I was logging on tonight, I thought to myself "why am I going back on, there will be no news, I think i need to quite this again for awhile".

Same thing with old fights. Boxings not like NBA or NFL, there's not a season for it where you get to see good "games" every week. There's very rarely good new fights at all, especially if you're primarily a hw fan. The top contenders NEVER fight nowadays. We're lucky to get more than 5 decent hw fights a year. But if you are a huge fan, you've gotta do something, right? Either watch old great matches or bloviate with other addicts.

Anyway, I guess this is a sign, I'm gonna quit for a few days at least, peace out.

Why have sex with the same girl again and again? Because it's enjoyable.

you learn on anything, but watching fights over and over is fascinating. You can watch it from different perspectives to see what each fighter was trying to do.. I am a big supporter of watching fights as many times as possible.

    Greatness has replay value.

Why wouldn't you want to see the best examples of the art being performed often?
I would much rather look through Monets paintings often, then go through a bunch of indie artists works.

In ways it's like listening to really good hip hop.
Every listen, you might discover a new word play, rhyme scheme, or metaphor you hadn't picked up on of before.
Similarly, with high quality boxing performances, there is always something new to observe, appreciate, and learn from when it comes to quality work.

Entertainment, sometimes I just like to watch a fighter put on a virtuoso performance. Hopkins-Trinidad, Mayweather-Corrales, Ali-Williams, Pacquiao-Cotto, Curry-McCrory, Nunn-Tate, Duran-Palomino, etc...Highlight reel knockouts are always fun to watch. Maybe it's that violent side of us that causes us to enjoy watching it.

    Classic fights like Ali-Frazier 1 and 3, Trinidad-Vargas, Saad- M. Johnson 1-2, Saad-Lopez 2, Robinson-Gatti 1, Ward-Gatti 1, Corrales-Castillo 1, etc...just shows how much fighters go through in the ring and reminds me there's no sport quite like this.

How often do you see athletes put themselves through this?

Ive seen most fights up to 20 times on average some ALOt more like 100 or so . You also see something different here and there, ive rescored alot of fights a few slipped by i got wrong thats why you watch them closely....this is what developes a good eye for boxing and maybe rescoring or grading a skill set.The best way to judge skills is watching fights (actually watching them /not cheering) it doesnt matter if its an old fight too me i would say the 90's ive watched the most in general.

The fighter ive watched the most would probably be Mike Tyson who would never get old for anyone who appreciates superior skill sets, ive probably seen the ruddock fights BOTH 50 a piece just to see what kept ruddock on his feet and how Tyson absorbed some crushing hooks himself.

Vitali Klitchko since hes not the basic fighter and movements are very difficult to why he did certian things, other fighters like Ali,louis and Marciano ( are great fights too) but cant help think why these guys are put on these pedastals of certian invincibility while others are thrown off them soley on skills ? ....lol

It never gets old dissecting skills or fighters for me,like i said i like knowing what im talking about .The random hecklers are the ones who only see a fight less than a handful of times then they THINK or tell you they know it all( thers no such thing as EXPERTS which why i look at most boxing historians as fools). Some just read books they dont even study footage and assume off of words? lol
