Many times we talk of great chins and no one but no one ever mentioned Ali....he was there will the most feared punchers of his time:

Liston, Frazier, Foreman, Shavers...yet he hit the canvas two times during his prime....Cooper, Frazier dropped him, Norton broke his jaw and he fought with a broken jaw for 6 rounds

Because it wasen't so much of chin, but his recovery skills. Ali got buzzed by punches but recovered quickly.

But he does have a great chin.

Ali had a legendary chin. In fact, it was TOO good. If it wasn't so good, he wouldn't have suffered long-term effects of punches like he did, since he would have gotten TKO'd instead of fighting on. Then again, he wouldn't have been as great, either.

Ali always gets first or 2nd mention with regards to Chin,

Only Barney Ross had a better chin if you go by Rings 75.

You said it right there! Ali's recovery skills is one of the best I've ever seen in my life! Calzaghe is nother that has Sick ass regeneration from being buzzed by a punch.

mccall pwns all in the chin stakes. that mother****er doesn't even get buzzed. the shots he was eating in lewis II were hilarious, he wasn't even blinking whilst he cried and lennox unloaded on him.

I know he always had a great chin...know...everytine you go to a thread on ESB asking of great chin...Ali's name is seldomly mentioned...and that is a fact ......so either we are the only one here on ESB that beleive that he indeed had a great chin..and the others neither care or are not aware of the fact....

    Case in point:

Hagler and LaMotta are on his level surely. Wayne McCullough as well.

A great chin, certainly, but not on the McCall/Chuvalo level. Ali, though iron-chinned, could still be staggered and knocked down. The problems, of course, were (a) landing, and (b) finishing him off.

I think most people acknowledge that Ali had a great chin.

This is like saying "why isn't Tyson considered to be fast and powerful?"

However, Ali's ability to take it to the body impressed me more than his chin.
