Why does it seem that throughout history that 147-160 has so much depth? And that flyweight and heavyweight especially today have little?

Well how many nonfat in shape guys do you know who have a natural walk around weight of 230? How many 112 pound grown men do you know?

How many guys do you know who walk around at 160-170?

That's why. There's more of them.

Middleweight hasn't really had much depth since Hopkins.. and even then, people thought it was a garbage division.

Fast forward to today, and this has to be without a doubt the worst generation of MW fighters, lmfao. Look at Geale for example..
