1. Golovkin had the option to change the date. He was under no obligation to fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend. In fact, the fight got moved from Vegas to a smaller cheaper venue. So top answer your question, NO, fighting Derevyanchenko would not have been last minute. You know who was last minute, Martirosyan getting 5 weeks to train after being retired for two year. That fight was a complete disgrace.

1. If GGG had not gone through with a fight on May 5th by the time the Canelo rematch would have played out of 12 months between fights, that’s no good when you are 36/37/38yo.
