1. Mega money (far more than Wilder-Ruiz or Joshua-Whyte) 2. Both sides see the other as vulnerable (Wilder will be 38, virtually 26 months inactive and has been thrashed x2 by Fury in his last three fights, while Joshua seems mentally finished and has also lost two of his last three) 3. At 38 and with the physical wear he has, Wilder needs to be moved quickly into the biggest money fights possible (with the same probably being true for the mentally shopworn Joshua) 4. If Joshua beats Wilder, the chances of getting the mega money Fury fight increase (with the same being true for Fury-Wilder 4 if Wilder beats Joshua) 5. If Joshua wins at least one fight with Wilder, his reputation and possibly his confidence and desire could be revived to a significant degree 6. If Joshua doesn't fight Wilder soon the chances of Wilder fighting and KO'ing Joshua-conqueror Ruiz increase 7. Neither man is likely to be fighting for a title in their next two or three fights, so why not make the biggest non-title fight in the meantime? 8. Both men have multiple losses so there's less to lose from taking another loss or two
The sad part is this would have been far more profitable for both if they had of just fought when they were both champions. The worst part is that a junkie Tyson Fury is the reason they had that chance for that mega fight in the first place. They blew it.
I'm not especially sad that both men will be walking away with another $100 million rather than another $200 million. But yeah, both sides blew it in terms of maximising money and prestige. They tried to let the fight "marinate" while not appreciating the risks of doing so.
It's definitely a fight that HW boxing could really use. They've both still got a little lead left in their pencils, so i think it'll be a decent fight. If AJ continues being timid though, he's gonna get clocked.
Think AJ needs to be offered retirement level money because the chance is so high that he never fights again after it. AJ can win but the odds are he will be like a rabbit in headlights and gets flattened I reckon.
Should have already happened in 2017, when are these idiots gonna learn that, in order to be great you have to take risks, fight the best, take the L and comeback. They could already have fought and now we be talking about a rematch, instead we missed the boat, like Tyson and Lewis. They're both fighting each other in the twilight of their career and it settles nothing
Wilder is one of those dudes you can't be timid with. If you hop in the ring with him, you gotta destroy him before he can land a right hand or else he'll destroy you.
Tyson was more or less in the twilight of his career but Lewis was regarded as being in or around his prime. Many also say the same of Lewis-Holyfield, Holyfield being on the cusp of going 1-1-1 with J. Ruiz. Yet they (or at least Lewis-Holyfield) were very significant fights. It's less clear with Wilder and Joshua than with Lewis and Tyson. Wilder may be past his best athletically and his durability has probably taken a significant hit. But he may also be better at landing his right hand than ever after the three fights with Fury and the confidence-boosting statement KO1 vs Helenius. Joshua seems to lack confidence but perhaps he is being underestimated and goes into the Wilder fight with a nothing to lose attitude. And even if that's not the case, his skillset is probably better than ever after the two fights with Usyk. Both are probably better than ever in some key respects while worse than ever in others. Which in a way makes it even more intriguing. It's a fight between the No.3 and No.4 ranked heavyweights, who have both been historically long-reigning champions. It's hugely significant, a defining fight (or fights) of this era.
I think it will happen because it's an old boxing saga with fails and controversies. Another reason is both got their... backs whooped and since they don't want to face any other from the top 5-6-7 or they already did, this is their only option and it's also the best financially and in terms of quality. It's a career-predeterming fight, but if they don't do it, their careers will go even worse.
I think both Wilder and AJ want to fight, problem is Fury, Saudis want 4 HW and Fury is the one who will always act like Diva
Hearn and Joshua have been bull crapping for years over fighting Wilder. Both AJ and Wilder are losers and are coming to the end of their boxing careers. Has someone been listening to that fool Cons from Newcastle? I'm seeing a massive agenda starting with all the pro match room YT channels.
What will make this super card complete is if the losers also have to battle each other for 3rd & 4th place on the under card of the Championship bout World Cup style!
I believe so, where else do either 1 of them go? Back to fighting not bums but bums like Helenius and Franklin?
