I given up hope that this fight happens and even if it does it's a case of being too late to really matter. Wilder is old, inactive and been turned into a deluded dosser who's greatest ability now is making up excuses for losing to Fury. Joshua, seems mentally broken too, is timid which is not how you want to fight Wilder. Joshua has always said he'd jump on Wilder which is the right tactic, force him back like Fury did to disarm the right hand but can Joshua fight like that anymore, he's turned into a cautious boxer and his latest interviews only reconfirm this is now the Joshua we'll see vs Wilder, cautious and unlikely to impose himself for fear of being caught which will ironically increase his chances of being KO'ed. If they fight, whoever wins the other side will say it would of been different when they were both champions and not mentally broken. So again does it really matter now who wins now?
The irony in this, though, is that Helenius would be pretty damn near the top of the pile if you were to rank Wilders opponents. At least Joshua beat some decent fighters at his peak... Wilder fought primarily bums.
The fight could happen because both are aware that their careers are in decline and that the risk is lower than it would have been a few years ago when both held the belts...
No way this will happen. AJ went life and death with a washed Klitschko and folded once Ruiz put a bit of pressure on him. AJ will fight cans, make his retirement money thanks to us UK idiots who tune in, and get out of town.

Joshua primarily fought "bums" too, most boxers primarily have bums in the W column. Breazeale is very arguably a top 25% win on Joshua's record. And he tried his best to win, which is more than you can say for most of them. Helenius lost to Duhaupas and Washington in the pros and to Stiverne in the amateurs. Helenius got KO'd in 1 by Wilder, Stiverne 1 went 12, Duhaupas went to the 11th and Washington won rounds while going 5. So while Helenius went 12 with Chisora and Whyte, officially beating Chisora, he's way down the list of Wilder opponents based on 1. Performance vs Wilder 2. Performance vs Wilder's opponents.
As subjective as it is, you could argue that Joshua has been mentally broken since Wlad and therefore nothing counts after that. And you can argue that the Ruiz defeat (the most humiliating ever) broke him, therefore Usyk's wins don't count for much/anything. But if these experiences break you mentally then you weren't especially robust to begin with. Wilder should be on a similar page given his own defeats and he sustained considerably more damage. But Wilder shows greater fortitude. And while Wilder may be less durable than before, he may be better than ever at landing the right hand. And while Joshua may be less aggressive, he may be a better technician and a smarter fighter than he was when he had his war with Whyte back in 2015. No fighter finds every attribute peaking at the same time. If Wilder wants activity then he can get it, if not then he clearly doesn't think it matters very much going into the Joshua fight. Perhaps he wants Joshua's last image of him in a ring being starching Helenius with a less than full-blooded punch, on the backfoot. It's also highly subjective to claim that Wilder and Joshua are "far past their best" at this point. Would 2015-2017 Joshua have beaten Usyk or would he have gassed out faster and been even more outclassed? Has Wilder shown a decline (let alone a severe one) in performance in his last two fights? Ali said that Frazier won a "white man's decision", Foreman said he was poisoned vs Ali, Wlad said that he "chose to lose" vs Fury. Fighters throughout history have made delusional excuses for their defeats. If anything, Wilder's capacity for delusion protects his self-image and allows him to retain confidence better than Joshua. The reason why you don't want this fight to happen is because you don't want to see Wilder starching Joshua. Even post-Ruiz 2 you were saying that Joshua was a "stylistic nightmare" for Wilder and you've heavily favoured Joshua going back God knows how long. You don't want to look a fool, which is understandable. If Wilder KO's Joshua, especially x2, then the value of Fury's wins over Wilder increase considerably. Which you also don't like.
If it happens I cannot wait to see the absolute panic on Ajs face the second wilder gets close Forget resumes guys. This is an absolutely easy fight to predict. A guy that's afraid to get hit will not beat wilder, unless he's as good as a prime wlad and Aj isn't close His only chance is jumping on wilder first, but wilder has shown he can climb off the canvas and go to war Wilder will comatose him 100%
