I mean, his promoter released a statement saying he had been exonerated by the WBC after the Wilder and Stiverne fight was cancelled, plus he paid a fine. There's a plethora of articles about how he was banned by the WBC and how the ban was then lifted, enabling him to compete for WBC belts again. What am I missing here exactly?
Povetkin was never banned. They were just carrying out an investigation. And no fines were actually payed, just so you know.
Wilder refused to fight him, wbc had no option but to cancel the fight or sanction Wilder. That was the only fall out.
What do you think? If he was allowed, why would there be any need for an investigation to be taking place?
He was below the vada limit for meldonium. He was never banned for that. The Wilder fight could have gone ahead. His problems began about 6 months later with ostarine, that was the temp ban story.
Understood, thanks. So for clarity - he wasn't allowed to fight for WBC belts. Which sounds a little like a ban to me.
No , they suspended him temporarily, then fed him Stiverne to gain his mandatory back and he blew that too. There's no more to it than that.
Aye, that's what I thought. I'm getting so many different versions of the events here so I'm just going to log off for today and go through the additional 12 pages of the thread tomorrow
