Why wilder vs joshua needs to happen asap

If both can agree on terms, yes. It will be great to see it happens. Though I must point out that if wilder really wants the fight he will be the party to concede most of the points.

 

Huh? Parker fought Fury in GB. He's probably at least as marketable as Wilder in GB right now. And that's where all the money is. And this is coming from an American. Wilder has more potential, but has fought no top guys and his viewing numbers attest to it. As it stands, Parker Wilde is equally marketable.

 

I see your point and agree as a boxing fan. I want to see this fight happen in December if it were possible to remove the business and political aspects of the sport. However, that's not reality.

Boxing is in fact just as much a business as it is a sport. The promoters are looking at this Joshua/Wilder fight through money green colored lenses. The potential of this fight is massive and the networks, promoters and boxers are all going to look for a way to maximize the profits.

Everyone is hyped about this fight and there's a buzz circulating within the world of boxing. Unfortunately that world is small and where the roadblocks begin. The promoters are going to look for ways to generate interest that reaches outside the boxing community and grabs the attention of a broader audience.

They are already laying the groundwork which includes a comprehensive promotional roadmap. It looks like Joshua and Wilder will have a fight before they face each other which is meant to set the foundation for a big promotional push between the U.K. Heavyweight World champion vs the US Heavyweight World champion in 2018. They'll allocate a good amount of time, energy and resources to the promotion of this fight in hopes that it brings the kind of demand that will bring the spotlight back to the heavyweight division and boxing as a whole.

If the heavyweight division can have a resurgence by a successful rivalry with a strong promotion...it could help boxing become a mainstream sport like it was in the 80s and early 90s. Of course it won't happen if the PPV is a flop or if the fight itself doesn't live up to the hype.....but if Joshua and Wilder put on a show and the promoters do a good job getting this match up the attention it deserves, it will go a long way in giving boxing an infusion of new fans which it desperately needs.
