I can't believe that these posts are about a fighter who 4 years ago had been written off--"stick a fork in him" was a popular phrase. Even his excellency,Terry Atlas, said he was a bum. He has come along way. Congratulations to Wlad for his modern version of "Requiem of a Heavyweight".
Your right, I remember almost 5 years when Brewster knocked out Wlad, Roy Jones was making fun of him on a live HBO brodcast. He told Lampley that Wlad would never want to get in the ring with me, with glass chin like his. He would go on to say later that Wlad should retire because he's not mentally strong enough to compete, almost exactly 2 years after that he beat Bryd for the IBF title, I guess Roy was a little off on his perdiction that Wlad would never be champ again.
Brewster never knocked out Wlad. He didn't even knock him down. Brewster beat Wlad. Brewster technically knocked Wlad out. There is a difference.
I have no doubt it will be a testing year for Wladimir but it has to be seen.. Ibragimov , Povetkin , Chagaev , Samuel all have to take the scalp... Easier said than done.. He has looked very competent in the last 2 years.. God bless....
Brewster did knock Wlad down, the ref got in the way before Brewster was going to lay him out, instead he gave Wlad a standing 8, which I believe is still considered a knock down.
I think his toughest test will be Ibragimov, he has tremendously fast hands and a decent amount of power. I think Wlad will be more heavily recognized as the proven champ once he dismisses Sultan. Samuel is a must rematch... Wlad is going to have a very testing year.. But one that may solidify his placement in History...
I don't think he'll be tested whatsoever by Ibragimov. Anyone that fights like he did a few fights ago is no threat to Wlad in any way. He cannot outbox him, and he has no power, so what's he gonna do?
