Why wont Golovkin test himself and fight Ward?

    1. Ward is now a light heavyweight.
    2. Even when he wasn't, Ward refused to even consider the fight unless the dice were loaded in his favour (dragging a small middleweight up to 168, refusing a 164 compromise, wanting the fight in the states where the referees will let him get away with every dirty tactic in the book etc...)

Because GGG wants to get paid to fight and Ward will price himself out.

I don't see it this way myself I have to say. You could make an argument for a hall of fame spot, but ATG is high praise indeed and reserved for the absolute elite in my book. To get to that stage you need defining fights against A-level competitions. Though admittedly it's not easy when the only A-level fighters within touching distance of your weight won't even consider the fight without the deck stacked in their favour.

Doesn't anybody around here understand that everyone's circumstances are different?

How many threads are we going to have discussing this?

I'm not a huge fan, but get off of his back.

He wants to do all he can at MW. That's his prerogative.

Forget Bernard. Bernard stayed at MW for nearly 13 years. He only moved up to fight Tarver after he'd lost to Taylor twice, and he'd got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Nobody should expect him to be going up and fighting LHW's.

Nobody is pressuring Kovalev to go up to CW etc.

    To fight WHO?

He's better off at MW for the time being, if he can get the Canelo and Saunders fights.

There's only really DeGale at SMW at the time being, and he's got ambitions of fighting Jack.

I'm sure that we'll see him move up in the near future.

I shake my head at these posts.

    EVERYONE'S CIRCUMSTANCES ARE DIFFERENT.

Do you want a picture drawing so you'll understand it?

Everyday it's the same on here.

He's not a huge MW. He has goals to unify the MW division. Now what's wrong with that, considering that SMW is not that strong at the moment?

    Tell me.

If MW was absolutely devoid of any great fights and SMW was stacked, then fair enough. But that's not the case.

Joe Calzaghe stayed at SMW for 14 years. He even committed to staying in 2003, even though he knew he couldn't unify against Ottke, and guys like Lacy and Kessler weren't even on the scene.

Bernard Hopkins shrunk himself down to MW and stayed there for 13 years.

    Just respect his wishes.

Very much doubt DeGale is going to fight Jack.

They are both with Eddie Hearn and Hearn is pushing for Callum Smith to get that shot.

The poster in question champions Hopkins for doing just that- and he had to fight his fair share of sub par opposition and turn down fights a division north.

The reason Hopkins gets a pass for doing it off that poster is because he has the same skin colour as Hopkins :-:)-(

    I hope not.

(as in, I hope that's not the reason)

That'd be even better for me.

It's a shame that Groves didn't beat Jack.

Why does is ridiculous comment keep coming up? He never turned down a fight with Ward, ever.

i agree somewhat. i think golovkin is an atg because there aren't many middles who i think would beat him. when you measure his combination of attributes and skills alone, he's up there with the absolute best, it doesn't matter how many "great" wins he has. anybody who denies that clearly has an agenda.
