Why won't Williams just fight Martinez again?

i dunno if he thinks he can with the rematch. if he could legitimately fight tall i'd say he could get it. PW should work with Manny Steward, then he would be unstoppable..

That's what I have been saying too. I dont mean im certain on it, but Paul got skills and it would be extremely interesting see how he would do with Manny Stewart.

Having watched the Pavlik/Williams negotiations this isn't hard to figure out. Arum was right. Goosen hasn't done **** to build up Paul's fan base. How can this guy NOT have a fan base and sell out the house? Yet when it comes to negotiations, he wants a split of what the other guy draws. He wanted a 50/50 CO-PROMOTION with the lineal champ ffs. Goosen also fills Williams with crap. He had him believing Pavlik would make $10 million if he fought Paul. :rofl Seriously. NBA came on and asked why Paul should get something like $2 mill when Pavlik was getting $10 mill.

Williams will bring into the pot what HBO puts in for the fight and precious little more. He probably wants a 60/40 co-promotion for a rematch since he 'won' the last one. I'm serious here folks. Arum was right about these guys not building up their fighters fan bases properly. Why does Paul Williams and Chad Dawson fight in small venues? :-(

its not Goosens job to build him a fan base his job is to promote fights, Williams's job is to perform in a way in which the fans want to come back and see you again...

:lol:That's true though if he was so hungry for fighting someone he would jump at the opportunity to fight whoever he could.

    :goodTrue again.

I'd prefer a Martinez rematch which he could get. Not too thrilled about him facing Kermit or Antonio though. He could beat Clottey but I think it may be a repeat of Pacquiao/Clottey but Pacquiao throws his combos better so Clottey/Williams would be interesting.

Exactly. Kelly could've fought him a long time ago but he pulled out.

Arum likes to keep things "in the house".

Hmmm maybe he should work with Steward he'll jab more with him that's for sure.

A promoter's job isn't to 'promote'? There is more to it than going after the TV money. Williams has 'done his duty' in the ring in terms of fan friendly fights. There is a reason Paul doesn't have the fan base he deserves and it isn't Paul's fault.

his job is to promote the fight, not build a fan base for Williams thats Pauls job, Goosen job is to sell the fight, now if Paul doesnt have a style that pleases the fans no matter what goosen does he wont develope a fan base for Paul.
a Fan base is developed by the way the fighter performs and not by a promoter... if a fighter performs the way fans like then he will develope a following if not, then he wont have much of one....

I think Williams will take on Clottey in the near future.

He knows Martinez would whoop his ass if he actually had time to train right.

Martinez showed Paul his true weight class is 147 and he should just go there and quite jumping around.

Good question. That's a rematch no one will miss. The outcome was contraversial. Both fighters had little time to prepare for each other. So a rematch would be the proper way to go.

Paul got the bogus win and is just going to run with it.

Neither promoter wants this fight to happen right now. However, HBO is trying big time to force this rematch. They're not considering any alternitive options until both camps at least try to negotiate a rematch. If it were soley up to the fighters, the fight would get done.

Martinez actually had a full training camp for their first fight, as he knew he was the no.1 choice to replace Pavlik should he pull out of the fight. Williams, on the other hand, had just a few weeks to prepare for Martinez.
