How could anyone not want this fight? Its everything the division needs. Personally, I WANT to see the best fights. I WANT to see the number two and former #1 fight. And I want to see it happen BEFORE either fights the current #1, because that makes for a more interesting fight. The winner of #2 and former #1 basically closes the gap between them and current#1. So the final fight will really be a true megafight of #1a v #1b. Isn't that what boxing fans should hope for? More competitive fights with more intrigue and more on the line? People are so dug into their own agendas, the fighters they like, the fighters they hate, they don't even want the best fights.
Only reason I could think of is if it would prevent Joshua vs Wilder from happening this year. That's obviously the biggest fight out there at HW.
Some AJ fans don't want the fight. Wilder haters don't want the fight because they think Wilder has a chance of actually beating Fury.
I want to see them fight but I'd sooner see Fury at his best when they do so. Seferi and Pianeta don't cut it for me as sufficient or credible tune-ups. What I don't want is to be left afterwards with questions about whether we've seen a truly competitive contest or a man sell his 'lineal championship'.
I get where you are coming from, but that's the trade off in this situation. You have an opportunity for those two to fight now, when it will make the most divisional impact, but when there are more questions about the legitimacy (but ONLY if Wilder wins, if Fury wins, it's unquestionably awesome), or later, when it will just be a mop up fight or generally have less significance. I'll take the former. Besides, I think Fury will either be ready for that fight then, or he'll never be the same fighter he was again. He's 29, and just about at his normal fighting weight. If Vitali at 37 can take on the best without a tune-up, Fury can with a couple under his belt, at least if he hasn't completely gotten shot.
Even if the weight is gone I think he'd need longer to develop the required stamina. However my concerns with Fury are as much mental as physical, he is not Vitali! If this fight does go ahead under the glare of Vegas publicity I think fury will regret not stepping up in a more structured way. I also think it's a pity that Wilder has reverted to fighting opponents outside the top ten. I was hoping Ortiz would be followed by other top, current heavyweights. I know the WBC have conveniently promoted Fury but the Seferi evidence suggests he's a million miles from the level required. That said, if it does go ahead I'll be watching and enjoying the build up etc.
I want to see it only if Fury looks in shape for his next fight. Fury-Wilder will be complete chaos! And it would set up the biggest fight of 2019.
You could be right as far as fury, but my gut says this is what he needs, and that it's now or never with him. Unless he puts on a seferi like performance against Pianeta, I'm gonna roll with him against Wilder.
Im a Joshua fan, Wilder fan, Fury fan. I want Joshua v Wilder as much as anybody, im also happy with Wilder v Fury, I cant believe Fury will be match fit but thats just my opinion, other than that i love the idea of the fight. Any mixture of Fury, Wilder and Joshua are an interesting clashes of style.
The only ones who don't want to see the fight are some Fury fans because Wilder AT THIS POINT would beat the crap out of Fury. Round 1 : close fight. Round 2 : Fury is laying on his head creating the adidas special, yellow stripes on the front and brown stripes on the back of his underpants while Wilder is on his way to the shower. That's the breakdown.
There are a lot of Hearn fan boys out there, who believe everything he says and thinks that this fight happening soon, puts AJ-Wilder in doubt. Facts are that Hearn is fine for Wilder-Fury to happen first because he needs to milk the cow a little bit more before making the Wilder fight. That was the plan all along until AJ opened his big mouth about the 50 million and then Wilder unexpectedly came back. So its always been the plan so Hearn fan boys should STFU and be a lot less naive.
Fair enough, you could be right. Only Fury and his team know where he's at, although I don't think we'll be much the wiser after Pianeta
I really want this fight. The HW division is lacking pop, lacking the status it once held in American sports. I know AJ is doing big things over in the UK, but the casual American sports fan has kind of turned the heavyweight title into an afterthought. If this fight gets made, it gets more media attention than any other HW fight in years. People will actually want to see it (unlike the Wlad fights) and it will boost the status of the winner, making an AJ fight a huge event.
You are right, they want to see Duckroom hold all the big fights and monopolize the heavyweight division. They are threatened when there are other promoters doing huge events with bigger names. This is why they are all saying that Fury is washed up, coming off a lay off, even though he'd have had more tune ups than Wlad and is younger and you get bet your life they'd be celebrating the fight happening if hearn was cooking up Fury to fight Jenner.
