Why would Barrera fight Khan when he's the mandatory for the WBO title?

Its weird because Barrera was Nate Campbell's number 1 contender and all he had to do is fight a tune up.

His last fight was supposed to be for the interim title, but nonetheless, with that win Barrera became #1.

Why is he fighting Khan? ... a win gets him nothing, a loss puts him in the back of the bus.

Who do you guys got in this fight?

if it makes more money, it makes more sense. btw i just noticed barerra has had about 70 fights in his career and amir khan has done 76 round in total. this just sounds wrong

Campbell will be busy and Barrera needs to stay active. Khan will get him some decent money and with his experience it seems worth it. Better to get a good payday against a guy who is pretty green rather than fight some tomatoe can for chump change.

Barerra is being paid a lot of money so Warren can put his name in Khans "win" column.

How Barrera is number one contender for the WBO after being inactive for so long and coming to the LW division? Campbell is fighting in Sunrise, Fl where there has been no major title fights ever. No disrespect to Sunrise, Beenie. Fighting Khan in the UK in a huge venue and for big bucks, I take fighting Khan.

Barrera fights a rising, dangerous, overhyped powerpuncher which if it happens brings him more dinero than most fights out there and would make a statement that he's not done yet. A victory by Khan would be huge for his resume and show that his fire is not put out yet and Roach is doing a good job with him. killing 2 birds with one stone. I personally don't think there should be shame losing to someone like Barrera, but a hungry lion like Khan a loss would mean he's not ready at the championship level and would get torn apart by Diaz, Marquez or Campbell. Depending how Khan performs, I wouldn't mind the loser of Marquez-Diaz fighting Khan if he performs well.

I thought the point of coming back at lightweight was for a chance at history ... I can see fighting a tune up fight and have nate campbell fight on the same card to set up the fight.
