Roach will possilby state that he saw something in MAB and that Khan will beat him. Remember, MAB was part of Golden Boy when Roach was training Oscar. Maybe he is thinking two for two.
This is very much a win win fight for Barrera imo. First he is probably getting a nice pay day out of it. Secondly if he gets beat, it will be obviously because he is completly shot, and thirdly if he wins he will get credit for beating a solid prospect.
I Agree with this post. This makes sense for Barrera and Khan and it will be a huge fight in the UK. I can just imagine how the British press will make this fight bigger than it actually is, There is gonna be a lot made of the fact that "The Man that beat Prince Naseem Hamed" is coming after Khan. It will sell a lot of ticket's and i can see it being held at the Reebok Stadium. Barrera is well past his prime but that will go over the heads of the casual fan.
Looking at it from this angle, Barrera's opponent wasn't approved by the WBO and he had a fight called off. He was trying to fight an easy, no name - Meacher Major, then someone else - to pave the way for a shot at WBO/IBF champ Campbell. We all know Khan is promoted by Warren, who gets fighters ranked in the WBO...maybe the WBO will sanction this as a winner-meets-Campbell fight. Also, there must be a tempting payday in it for Barrera, and the fight will certainly be big news in at least one country, the UK.
Khan vs Barrera will probs do 500k PPV in the UK so thats 500k*15 = £7.5m or about $12m. Add in other advertising and random stuff and you are probably up to $20-22m. Take away all the various fees and Barrera is probs easily coming away with 2-3m... That's probably one of this top 10 purses...
People seem to be forgetting that the Prescott loss ever ocurred.... Personally, I don't see what a win over a guy who is only one fight removed from being decimated will do for MAB.
I think Barrera is building himself up towards a LWT title fight one step at a time as its a new weight for him, Kahn will give him an idea how far he has to go if he wants to compete with one of the 135 lb champions.
Money, its a winnable fight, as Barrera is far better than any of Khans previous opponents, its a decent win if he wins and outs him into title contention, if he loses, he can just say he was shot, doesnt have it anymore. Its profitable fight as well, and will get a big audience in the UK
Moneyyyyyy.. barrera has nothing to lose now if he loses to khan. Khan on the other hand will get his toughest test of his young career. If he can somehow beat barrera then it will give him a ton of confidence that he can start fighting the contenders at 135.
