Didn't Arum say this plainly? Too high risk, too low reward. They've got their sights set on a megafight with Canelo.
A GGG-Cotto fight wouldn't sell for crap right now anyway. Just look at everyone's attitude right now about it, they all just assume GGG will win. Fight's don't sell big or not much at all when the winner is already a foregone conclusion. Cotto practically needs to fight and beat Canelo to have his with GGG more believable that he could win, this makes the fight far more lucrative to he and GGG. And GGG does not have to go down to try and beat Canelo himself, which would actually gives the draining of GGG a very good chance for Canelo to beat him. Cotto-Canelo then GGG is by far the best route to go.
Because he can make more money fighting Alvarez, and if he wins that, Mayweather and Pacquiao may well start sniffing for a rematch and a middleweight trinket- all would be less risky physically to his well being than Golovkin. Basically, because boxing is a business.
That plan would make complete sense for the WBC. That also explains why they're so willing to play ball with GGG despite him already being the WBA champion, and why they'll help Cotto how they can. It makes sense (and plenty of cents) for everyone if they play their hand like that. I also agree that the Roc Nation bid was definitely an outlier. Quillin will be making approximately the same against Korobov as Sergio Martinez did against Cotto. :good
Because at this stage of Cotto's career, a brutal KO could upset his momentum. Cotto is in the driver's seat. He can pick his big-money fights. A GGG KO could crumble that.
to milk the title :huh but if he fights canelo at 160 in his next fighter after dec fighter i cant complain. i think he should fight the winner of taylor vs soliman and unfiy that belt. see if ggg fights quillin or jacobs then ggg and cotto can have there showdown for all the gold.
:verysad mofos can get credit for sht these days. sergio cripple maybe but going into the fight he was not a cripple, only when cotto demolished him then he was a cripple. had sergio demolished cotto would he still be a cripple :huh just seems like damn if you and damn if you dont, i hate that in boxing with a passion.:fire
Probably for the same reasons he never rematched Margarito until he was shot, or fought Martinez until he was sure he was shot or never re-matched Pacquiao.
I'd rather see GGG try to unify the other belts, that would be a far better plan than fighting Rubio. Lets be real here, fans were disgusted at Pavlik for fighting Rubio(his mandatory) and that was in 2009.
Why was the "cripple" a solid favorite going into this fight with literally no fans whatsoever giving Cotto a chance in hell?. I was laughed at for saying this fight will be tough and 50/50. Now that he beat Martinez the "Oh, we knew it all along" typical nonsense seems to be in full play by the average internet ******s.
Which MW belt holder is available to unify in the Fall? Nobody. :conf Rubio has an interim title, he's slightly better than mando status.
