If the options were between unifying and Rubio, I agreethat unifying's the much better plan . Unfortunately, the options he had for a fall fight are Rubio (who is at least a ranked contender and has some name recognition) or nothing (as far as rated fighters go). Staying active and building his profile is the smartest move for GGG. If he waits on the sidelines for the bigger fights, he'll see those guys be all too happy to continue ignoring him. He's doing the modern day version of a barnstorming tour, and it's his best plan. For matchmaking purposes, it's less important for him to get recognition as the best 160 pounder as it is the most popular 160 pounder. The $$$'s are what will draw the top guys to take the risk against him.
I really can't blame him nor argue otherwise about his activity. He's hyped well enough but somehow can't seem to score a big money fight clearly due to the lack of interest from big names who can't seem to find the reward for the risk GGG provides. I fully agree with you that activity will eventually force bigger names to consider him as an opponent.
Because the risk is too high for the financial reward. Yeah I agree with you here. It is true that Cotto is small for middleweight, and more suited for 154. But if you're the champ of a division and competing there, I don't like the "well he shouldn't have to face the top guy, he's too small" reasoning that some people actually use to defend Cotto. Then go back down to the division in which you belong.
knowing cotto, if he beats canelo easier than everyone thinks, i think will elevate his confidense enough to take a shot at ggg
Horrible to see the lineal champ obviously ducking his most worthy adversary. Cotto doesn't mind getting shots at the champ but seems reluctant to give then.
Golovkin agreed with WBC that if he wins Interim, Cotto-Canelo comes first. Thus, I no longer consider Cotto to be ducking GGG until and unless they both win their upcoming bouts and hold WBC primary and interim belts. At which point if Cotto attempts to use his clout to delay or bypass what should be his mandatory , he will be guilty of blatant ducking... but not before. Since Team GGG themselves have signed onto a plan that has Cotto fighting someone else first, you cant claim any kind of duck. For now at least.
because GGG would knock Cotto's head off and end his phony ¨reign¨ at MW and even Cotto's mom is aware of this
GGG would most likely be Cotto's last dance....he's sorta in a lose lose situation since I doubt he can beat GGG and will take a signifigant amount of damage if he did and if he doesnt fight GGG people will automatically negate what he has given fans and he will be deemed a punk....Cotto's a credit to the sport always has been and always will be. I'd like to see him go ahead and take on Canelo and GGG and call it a day.
GGG is a Bum! Why do these Russians come to America when they would fit in much better in BumFuk, England?
Because he know it would be ugly against a legit strong middleweight. He's scared shitless. He only wanted to steal a belt and make some money, not to being expected to really fight someone at middleweights. If he'll win the Alvarez fight, he'll drop the belt. He's too terrifyed of GGG.
