Why would Cotto lose to Clottey when he beat Mosely who is superior in every way?

People say he has good defense! good defense is not covering up in the shell while providing 0 offense how is that defense? Defense isnt covering well while throwing any punches. Good defense is footwork, sliding, rolling. with punches angles. Clottey does non of this, he basically covers while doing nothing. How is that defense?

Clottey is not that much bigger than Cotto and if a non puncher like Ta Ta can sting Clottey what happens when Cotto tags him with a hook. Corrales survived this guy for crying out loud. Expect him to get a drubbing no way he wins this fight, remember that **** the day after cause I will be on here saying I told you so. Victory is a fargone conclusion for me I want a KO.

No way Clottey wins any experienced fan can see this the only way Clottey win is a lucky punch,

Cause he doesnt get hit as much when he does.

He is a solid defensive fighter...nothing exceptional but it will make things a bit harder for Miguel.

I see him definitely beating Josh but he probably wont stop him when you consider Clottey's combination of durability and defensive skills.

Margarito's plastered gloves have nothing to do with his ability to absorb Cotto's punches that night. Cotto landed every punch in the book against Margarito and he never came close to knocking him out.

But back to your original point... let's not forget Cotto BARELY beat Mosley... and styles make fights. Clottey isn't as talented as Mosley, but he's bigger and stronger and can present problems for Cotto that Mosley may not.

Clottey doesn't throw enough punches to beat Cotto though. I think Cotto will win this one by outworking him, but it will not be easy. Clottey's durable, both to the chin and to the body, and he has a tight guard that's hard to land clean punches on.. plus, he is known to rehydrate close to light-heavyweight limits on fight night. You're kidding yourself if you think Cotto is going to just steamroll Clottey like he did against Jennings or something..

I still reckon he had plaster in his chin that night...maybe that injected it in or something.

If you get to rewatch Clottey vs Judah and early on in the bout, it is quite evident that Zab could get all his punches off and Joshua had to resume his act to absorb and stand right in front of him... So, that's exactly what is expected from Clottey against Miguel, just that you can't tell for sure if Cotto is gonna get all his variety of punches off and test Clottey's ability to take punishment until he fades later on in the fight and starts to box and move. Still, anyone who saw the confident looking Cotto snapping away flashy shots and stiff jabs at Alfonso Gomez, must fully expect Clottey to have a very hard time... There's no reason at all that Cotto will not bomb away early and build a lead on the scorecards.

Well to be fair, Clottey probably has a better defense because he holds his hands up well. While Mosley often uses his face to block punches.

But either way Clottey doesn't have anything that Cotto hasn't seen before. Look for Miguel to dominate the ugly African.

as always, the thread starter has used a stupid way of coming to a logical point.

Styles make fights, ever heard of that.

However, IMO Clottey is too inactive in terms of workrate, though he is durable enough to last the distance. Cotto UD 117-111, something like that, although I think it will be a decent enough contest, and competitive throughout.

Cotto did fade a bit in the late rounds against Mosely, and against Margarito he fell apart completely. Except for the "sore hands " episode against Margarito, Clottey usually finishes fast, and is rugged and durable. Clotteys best chance is to try to wear Cotto down and really go for it in the last three rounds. But if things don't go his way early, it's hard to tell how Clottey will react. He may just start making excuses just like he did with Margarito.

You almost have a valid point. But since all of the clean punches Cotto landed on Margarito was in the first 6 rounds, before his supposed strength got "sap"ed... your point fails miserably. Cotto's shots couldn't hurt Margarito, whether it was round 1 or round 11. That was clear as day.

And there is no definitive proof Margarito cheated in the Cotto fight. You can only ASSume. And of course.. only asses assume..

Clottey, couldnt even hurt Felix Flores at 150 a guy that was ktfo in 1 round by DeMarcus Corley who hurt Cotto but lost by tko in 5 rounds. I guess styles makes fights but hey it wont be easy for Clottey to stablish his fight wich is counterpunching and shell. He will have to bring his best fight ever.

Clottey got caught by the best punch of the fight. And Cotto is not likely going to get that clean of a chot on Clottey.

Besides, Zab had Cotto shaken... What would Cotto do if Clottey hurt him in this way?
